A Touch Of Blue

I've got 'A Touch Of Blue' CD today. From my wonderful son-in-law. And this is not the first present related to DC I've got from him. He bought this CD some time ago, but I've got it only today and I didn't expect this album to make such an impression on me. Listening to it turned out so emotional.

I've had rather mixed feelings about David Cassidy's albums after 1992. 'Didn't You Used To Be' was his last concept album, entirely with new material. Later there were new songs too, but first of all  covers of the songs he liked himself, and new versions of his old hits. It was a good strategy from the marketing point of view, and 'Then And Now' was his great comeback on the UK chart after many years. Released in October 2001, it reached # 5 and achieved Platinum Sale status.

'A Touch Of Blue'..Great title. Only one original song (and what a great song it is!) but this album is really outstanding, wonderful sound, such a feeling, David's voice deeper and more emotional, each song so impeccably produced. The great crooner sings on this record, confident in his worth and his abilities.

2003 was a very good year for DC and he was in great shape.  He, Sue and Beau moved to Florida and it was a great decision. They loved their new house and DC had just 5 hours by plane to Saratoga.

In 2003 he had 2 memorable TV appearances, in 'The Agency' and 'Malcolm In the Middle'. That year he played 32 concerts in the USA and Canada, and they were just great. Many fans noticed that David looked healthy and more relaxed..happy. He was more natural on stage, less Las Vegas more rocker. And not only on stage. Here is David Cassidy on GMTV in the UK

He was only 53, in sensational vocal form and he said that maybe 'A Touch Of Blue' was his last album. He wanted to be on Broadway again. He should have recorded one album after another.

In addition to 2 discs (A Touch of Blue and Bonus Album) there is also an insert with info about recordings and a message from David. And like always with him (remember his handwritten liner notes from the 70s) the message is short, personal and very moving.

David Cassidy : "A Touch Of Blue lives in all of our human struggles. It also lives in the spirit of all of these songs herein. My hope is that you hear the love, care and passion everone felt creating this project. Thus, I must give great thanks to all of the magnificent talent who contributed to its creation, especially to my longtime co-producer, friend and brother in crime Mike Melvoin (...) Special thanks to Ted Carfrae for his continued support and friendship, and mostly to all of you who have given me this great gift of opportunity. I will always love you for that.
Happy Trails...
David Cassidy"
