"David Cassidy Live On Stage. Tomorrow"

We have a poster with such words on the website. In big bold letters.
And there is more on it.  '2 p.m. Randwick Racecourse. Tickets $ 4.20. Book at Capitol Theatre, Metro Kings Cross, Mitchells, D.J's and all agencies. THIS IS ONE SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED! DAVID CASSIDY ON STAGE FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE AND A HALF HOURS. Tickets on sale at Doncaster Rd, Gates.'

Poor Harry M. Miller, DC's world tour in New Zealand was such a financial loss for that known promoter, he hoped in Australia would be much better. So to the last moment the tickets were available.

Of course I've never in my life  been there, but I've read a little bit. It was opened in 1833 (wow!), and first of all was (and still is) a racecourse for horse racing, but has been also used as venue for many different events like concerts and religious masses.

DC arrived in Sydney, on Thursday, March 1, 1974. On Friday he met with the press. We have an article about it.

Saturday, March 2 was very hot.

Jimmi Seiter, the production manager during David's World Tour, "That tour of Australia was almost like the Beatles shows that I had done many years earlier.(..) there was a lot of open space (at the Randwick Racecourse) and no seats for the audience. This was a challenge to be sure as the security wall was not that high and neither was the stage, I had a talk with the promoter when I arrived at the venue about the stage height, but there was no time to redo it as the audience was already there.."

Jimmi Seiter has written that it was extremely hot, not only for him but also for the audience who was let it at noon. No one wanted to leave good location near the scene to get water or get out of the sun..

When the concert started, according to Jimmi it was later than 2p.m., it was extremely hot and very, very loud, and the audience reacted to every DC's move or his words, "During the show was a constant barrage of flowers, toys (after the concert 20 large trash bags of toy koalas were collected from the stage), and at one moment a shoe came up on stage and David picked it up.." and the audience responded throwing more shoes..Thanks to the security only 5 or 6 girls managed to get on stage but none got to  David. As we know the stage started to collapse because the wall has been pushed non stop..

It's truly extraordinary that we have this amazing, one in a kind document, 'To Australia With Love', the program was showed in April 1974 on Australian TV, and is available on You Tube and The David Cassidy Official Website. We can see footage of interviews, David meeting with fans and also his concert.

The audience first sitting in the sun, watching the crew working on stage, but with each passing  minute the teens, mostly girls getting more and more excited.."WE WANT DAVID!!!"

The next day of course a lot of articles appeared about the number of injured fans (60), the number taken to hospital (15) and the number of ambulances (also 15). Nothing about the music, the great concert DC played in Sydney..According to the press there were 12, 500  persons in audience.
