David And..Sheena

I found that article yesterday just while searching for something else. A publicity photo caught my attention. David and Sheena Easton, we know how that story ended, you can't find much chemistry in that pic, but a lot about that 'mutual excitement' was written in the article. You can read it here. Of course it was just the beginning of that project. The show 'At the Copa', another David Cassidy - Don Reo joint venture, was performed at Rio Hotel, (in Las Vegas of course), from January18th 2000 to January21, 2001, but already at the end of the summer of 2000 it was obvious that something is not working. No chemistry, or even worse. 'One insider says the two are no longer on speaking terms..'(Sep 23, 2000, The Las Vegas Sun).

Lon Bronson's 18-piece band was superb, and very professional dancers (with Candace Davis- Martin who later would tour with DC and did backing vocals on 'Then And Now' album).

I must admit I never heard about Sheena Easton in the early 80s. We had martial law in Poland, we fought with regime forces on the streets, we listened to another kind of music. Very angry..hard rock and punk mostly. I just can't remember her hits. So yesterday I checked Sheena on YT, and wow.. she was very popular, even sang the Bond's theme song, one video has more than 23 million views.

I don't know. So better return to 'At The Copa' .

There was a lot of publicity, DC and Sheena appeared on some tv programs, but we don't have any of them on the website. A lot of reviews appeared, and one journalist wrote something important : 'One thing that happens in this show and can't be helped is when Cassidy does his hit songs, you authomatically put the Partridge Family aura around him which detaches you from his Flamingo character for a while.' Oh yes, that was great and obviously the right time to return playing concerts. We should be grateful to Sheena. When she left David finished the second year of his contract with Harrah's Entertainment by performing concerts at other Harrah's properties. He had more time for his family, in August the first David Cassidy Day at the Races took place in Saratoga,  and that year he played a lot of great concerts, also in the UK. That was a great comeback of David Cassidy a singer and a superstar..

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. She had birthday yesterday. 3 years younger than David, a few years older than a typical DC's fan.  In the 70s I heard quite a lot about Kay Lenz . She was very popular in Poland, like the rest of the cast of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. They Said I Changed A Lot..

Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
