Keith And Lauriebelle

Or rather it should have been called, 'The perfect profile of David Cassidy'. Or 'David's Hair'.
I took screenshots of that episode for the website a few years ago..in awe and admiration. Amazing.

Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary. In March 1974 the last 4 episodes of TPF were aired. 'Keith and Lauriebelle' on March 2.

How long is too long. David had the longest hair on the set that's for sure, and I've read somewhere that he didn't agree to cut it. But he shorten his gorgeous hair a little bit before going on the World Tour. And of course he didn't watch this episode when it was first aired, he was in Sydney. Playing a concert for 12, 500 fans.

It'd be difficult to find a bigger contrast. DC in Australia, so professional, performing in difficult conditions; enormous heat, wind, a collapsing scene, fans pushing and screaming, fighting to be as close to him as possible, throwing flowers, toys and shoes, and he was singing like nothing was happening around him. A superstar.  And at home Keith Partridge without a date on a Saturday evening.

David and Keith..I've found today a short DC's interview on YT

And someone wrote in comment, 'I know that David Cassidy was not Keith Partridge. But I still love David as Keith.' Exactly.

It's fascinating watching how David and his alter ago, Keith, how they kept changing during 4 Seasons. In the first episodes filmed in spring and summer of 1970, Keith was just one of the kids. There were long sequences without him, or some songs were performed off screen. Later such things didn't happen. The producers were experimenting with the Keith's image, especially with his hair. In Season 1 his hair looked different in each episode. In Season 2 DC had quite a long hair. In Season 3 at last the classic, iconic shag hairstyle was achieved. In Season 4..Keith looked like a rockstar, very tight jeans and very long hair.

Keith also evolved as a character. The more famous David was, the more Keith was a loser. Not very smart and had no luck with girls.. He had a lot of problems at school, was insecure and very sensitive, very easy to hurt and manipulate. But also very charming, pretty and kind, a wonderful big brother. A dream boy next door.  Great sense of humor. Wonderful smile. Yes, we love David as Keith.

It was just a family sitcom, but DC's acting was really outstanding. And of course he was mesmerizing in the music scenes. Those were magical moments when he was performing as Keith, no matter what song he was singing. The close-ups of his face in the dimmed light..No one paid any attention to what others were doing behind him. He had the TV audience in the palm of his hand.

In October 1991 on the program called The Mr. Pete Show, poor Keith was buried.
