Rock Me Tour 2002 Australia. Part 2
The tour in Australia was very emotional, for David and for his fans. They didn't care that some journalists weren't impressed at all. In their opinion the tour was a kind of nostalgia, sponsored by the pay tv channel, the album was a collection of old hits, and no one was interested in David's present work and life, only in his past.
After a press conference : 'The denim shirt was undone one button more than you might expect (..) narrow shoulders, narrow waist, no hips and legs like a young girl (..) his skin so unlined, so taut. You were not the only one humming Carly Simon..' (A Spent Partridge?, Nov8, 2002, www.smh.com)
Of course, David changed, in many ways.. but he looked great and his voice was still intact. Janet Fife-Yeomans saw DC performing live in the UK in the 70s, and in 1985, she saw him on Broadway and in Las Vegas. But in her opinion, the concerts in 2002 were the best : 'He seems to be at ease with himself and to have accepted the legacy of teen idol image playing the old Partridge Family songs that along with his own music provided the soundtrack of the youth for the women in audience.' (The Australian, November 11, 2002)

But I think the most important was that opportunity to meet David Cassidy again. To tell him after 28 years about those great cherished memories, it was an opportunity to bring the 70s memorabilia, and DC liked looking at them and talking about them. Banners, scarfs, albums, posters..David Cassidy always had that amazing ability to connect with the audience ( even manipulate), to make everyone feel the only one and special. He did a lot of hand touching, he spoke and joked with the crowd.

Of course sometimes he was tired and wanted to have some time for himself, but it's amazing how he was always for his fans and cared about them.
Suzanne McConnell's (who saw DC in concert in Auckland in 1974) let me share with you her story about meeting David Cassidy again in 2002.
Suzanne McConnell : '..a friend of a friend told us what time his flight was coming into Melbourne from Brisbane so a small group of us went out to domestic terminal and waited for his flight to arrive and he was the first passanger off the plane. When it came to my turn to talk to him, I was able to thank him for an email he sent to me 2 years previous.
I was part of Yahoo email group at the time and my own dear son who I named David ( for obvious reason) had been unwell. which he was often as he was born with a very severe type of epilepsy leaving him with long term special needs, which eventually took his life in 2014, three years before DC.. Anyway through this group, a staff member of David's saw my posting about my David, and David Cassidy sent me a lovely email sending his best wishes and support, I cherish that now and have it framed in my bedroom, but I swore if I ever got to meet David I would thank him for taking the time to write to a fan he didn't even know and I got to do that in November 2002.'
Thank you Suzanne..
