Some Very Old Articles

I spent quite a lot of time yesterday trying to make scans of very old articles from the 70s. They were about David of course. The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and The Sun. I brought them from England in May. I got them from my very good English friend. There is an interesting story how B. got them.

She doesn't remember the year, probably 1974, she was in London visiting her grandparents, at the time was going one of the many national postal strikes (probably), anyway a lot of not delivered newspapers lay on the street. And she took them home and cut the articles about DC. Now it's not easy to decide from what newspapers some articles were. Or the exact day..A kind of detective work for me..

Maybe a song from 1974. The White City concert recording.

Those scans. That was hard, also because I have a new laptop, and it has taken me a lot of time to install everything. Now I can appreciate even more the scans Carmen has made, so many done by her and put on the website. It's only looks so easy to do.

I'm wondering how many such newspapers articles are lost for us forever. Especially those from newspapers, not magazines, usually on bad quality paper. The Sun is a good example, printing barely visible, thanks to modern technology it's possible to improve it. It takes a lot of time, learning and doing it. But it's worth it.

Can we learn more about David from those old articles? Yes, of course. There are some very rare pics, there are some unknown info, and first of all those articles, interviews or short notes captured that ..I don't know how to put it..the excitement, they showed us how extremely popular David was in England. Whatever he did, whatever he said, it became a front page news..50 years ago..

  1. Hi Weronika, thank you very much for sharing this! That is very interesting that there was a postal strike in London (there were also postal strikes in Canada, in the 70's and 80's), and that there were a lot of undelivered newspapers on the streets, and that your friend was able to retrieve some of the ones with David on them! What a treasure! That is interesting that you are trying to find out which different newspapers these pictures and articles are from. I wonder if it might be possible if you can contact The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and The Sun, or Google them, and see if they have old issues from the 70's, 80's, etc, on their websites or archives? If yes, it may be very time consuming, but at the same time, I think you can find which newspapers have the pictures and articles that you have, and find more treasures, too! That is so interesting that you can scan them, too! Thank you for all the research you do about David, and for doing such a great job on this blog! It is like a big library about David, like DavidCassidy.com, and it keeps growing almost every day! Thank you so very much again!

  2. The David Cassidy.com and Facebook would no longer be approved by David if he were still alive. He would have moved on and developed a new site based in the US.

    1. Thank you for sharing this. Would you mind my asking why David would not approve DavidCassidy.com and Facebook if he was still living? Thank you so much, and have a blessed day.
