'David Cassidy. Yes, This David Cassidy'
And of course that way we can learn a lot about the music industry and pop culture. Recently Jane has posted several notes, adverts and reviews, about DC's single (and video), 'Lyin' To Myself, published in 1990 on the magazine called 'Hitmakers'.
Let's watch David's great video with 'Lyin' To Myself' once more. Btw. it was made in the terminal of New York's Grand Central Station. One more place in NY connected with David.

I've never heard about that Hitmakers mag, so I looked it up. It was a radio industry trade publication founded around 1979 in California, it was published weekly and had usual tip sheet reports and interviews with program directors and music industry executives. So the mag was a good source of info of airplay, who (what radio station) was playing what songs.
We have 11 Hitmakers issues from the 2nd part of 1990, and we can see for ourselves the way up of 'Lyin' To Myself ; it was first listed on the National Breakouts. Quite a lot actually was written about it, and Enigma, and there was a pic of David with B-104 Baltimore's morning crew and a guy from Enigma Records (August 1990).
On October 5, 1990, a full page advert appeared, David Cassidy's self titled album print promotion, really impressive. The album was new on the Hitmakers Adult Top 40 chart, and in the advert a long list of radio station playing and promoting DC was included. We can read e.g. that at the time it was the second biggest female request record at WPLJ, especially strong with 18-34s. There were also pics of 'Cherish' and 'David Cassidy's albums covers, with the slogan 'Perception vs. Reality' and 'David Cassidy. Yes, This David Cassidy'

We know what DC wrote about Enigma, but actually Enigma was formally acquired by Capitol/EMI already in 1989. Making his self titled album took DC at least 2 years, he started writing songs for it in London, in 1987. With Sue Shifrin. He recorded some demos and everything took time and a lot of money. When he actually recorded the album he was working with the best. Eric Throngren and Phil Ramone produced it, really big names.
So I think Enigma supported DC. The video was made. There were a lot of TV and press interviews. DC was interviewed on MTV and for Rolling Stone mag. On November 17, 1990, ''Lyin' To Myself' peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. David's first Top 30 hit in 18 years in his own country. A huge achievement.
2 years ago, popular The Wings of Pegasus You Tube channel, released a video called, 'Was David Cassidy one of THE MOST misunderstood music artists?'. 88k views, more than 1k comments. That's really amazing, and actually very moving watching first DC performing live 'Lyin To Myself' in 1990, and later listening to the analysis of DC's career, his potential, that he was a great live performer, and a multitalented very underrated artist..
