'A Puka Shell Poster Boy'

Today's blog has started with my impatience. The London Music Walk Of Fame. 

Yesterday quite a lot of people signed the petition and I thought we would achieve 1000 signatures very quickly. But I was wrong. Where are the fans? Those who belonged to the David Cassidy Fan Clubs, the official ones and those run by fans themselves..

So I've browsed Internet searching for some info, (aimlessly really), and suddenly I discover how many articles are actually about David Cassidy a fashion icon. His feather cut and puka shells. And ..surprise, surprise, quite a lot of men admit years later that they thought that David was cool. Like that guy..

And of course the feather/shag cut is in vogue again (it was in the 90s too) and also nearly every article about the 70s hairstyles  mention David.

The same can be said about pukka shells. In an article from 2019 called : 'Pukka Shell Necklaces Are Back' (Fashion Boomers) we can read : 

''David Cassidy of Partridge Family fame had an affinity for them, so much so that he became something of a puka shell poster boy. As a symbol of high '70s fashion and a total teen heartthrob, Cassidy had a heavy hand in helping puka shell necklaces become a style staple of the era.'.Oh yes, and a lot of boys wanted to be cool like David and had such necklaces.

Val Kilmer wrote in November 2017 : 'RIP David Cassidy. He was such a huge star when I was a child. He made the puka shell necklace a must have! We used to pick up shells for hours on the Hawaiian shores. Ahh..The Partridge Family..'

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
