David Cassidy, an actor or a singer ?

We love to discuss it from time to time. What David prefered ? Being an actor or a singer ? Of course he wanted to be an actor at the beginning..but later? 

What roles he could have played ? Luke Skywalker ?..Danny from Grease ?, the names of the films are mentioned - 'Ghost', 'Pretty Woman', 'An Officer and a Gentelman'..I don't know. Personally I think he would have been great in 'Sting' and 'Great Gatsby'. The Robert Redford's characters. Both charming and on the hook with the law..especially Jay Gatsby, mysterious, complex, romantic, David would have been in 'Great Gatsby' (and looked in those wonderful clothes) sensational.  Like on Fantasy Island, when he played Jeremy Todd.

Was he a great actor? I don't know, I can't be objective, I usually can't take my eyes off him, a film, a tv episode and the plot is not important. The Partridge Family changed everything, and all this potential has been wasted..And later ..he had no luck, took what was offered to him. But DC was always great when there was something more to play, something to show his acting skills, even on very average tv series or when he played truly speaking himself, as on the Alfred Hitchcock. Joey Mitchell, a former superstar with so many problems..

And his main role, the best teen idol ever..he was so good that after half a century there are many people who still love that David Cassidy's image, they want to remember him as he was for a few years in the early 70s.

For me the answer is very simple, David Cassidy was a great singer and I cherish every single song he ever recorded.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
