The Hammersmith Apollo , London

Amazing building, art deco Grade II listed, opened in March 1932 as a cinema. It was called different names  - The Gaumont Palace at the beginning, and now Eventim Apollo. Whatever the name , David Cassidy played there several times, another important place for his fans in London

In 2004 David Cassidy had another successful , sold out the UK tour. He started in Manchester on April 22nd and  he played 12 concerts. On May 7th he performed at Hammersmith Apollo, that concert was recorded , and later DVD was released called David Cassidy Greatest Hits Live. A  great concert, DC played his TPF's and own hits , but also Hush, 3 The Beatles' songs and Gimme Shelter. Sharon Angulot made a great video with Rolling Stones' and DC's live version. I love it , it just amazing.

The DVD also had an interview with DC called Being David Cassidy

David Cassidy was a born enertainer, and his concerts were-one -of - a - kind, especially after 2000. We can read about it from fans and no fans memories, articles, that this relationship between DC and his faithful audience was exceptional. A review : 'The BIC was packed for an American heart-throb who had thrilled them all back in the 70s with a string of Top 10 hits. And they got just what they wanted , as the slim white-shirted singer charmed them all over again.(..) David got plenty of time to get to know his audience (..) lapped up the adulation he sounded better than ever.' Another review :'When he sings and plays he's very entertaining..'I'm so blessed' he kept saying 'I love you all'..he worked hard. He sang well. He charmed his way through it. 'Cherish' send the ladies over the edge. Cassidy obviously know why he is loved. He's careful to keep pretty much to a slate of favourities.(..) He kissed the girls, admired the child, rapped about his early shows and joked about the fans who brought albums for him to sign. That's nice, but play already' (September3rd, 2004, Sharron Haddock, Deseret News, Salt Lake City)

So  his concerts  became a kind of nostalgia act ? How often he said, even in the 70s that he didn't want to be like Elvis or those former stars who played in Vegas' casinos and were singing old songs..

Yes and no in my opinion..Of course his concerts after 2000 were nostalgic meetings of women with their aging , former teen idol, their first crush, their first love. They fell for DC many years ago. They witnessed his struggles, his downs and ups..during the years those teenage girls became wives, mothers, even grandmothers, but they were still under his spell and for them DC was still the one and only. To see him in concert they came from far away, dressed for his concerts like for a date  with a long, lost love. David knew about it , and also that some fans were at his shows many times.. So yes, those concerts were first of all for fans..but there was nothing embarrasing in it, they were great professional shows, DC was a celebrity, had other things to do, other projects. Sure, he played concerts for money, but not only..
