2003 - Everett Price , Teri Cote, A Touch Of Blue, New York ...and God Bless America..

David Cassidy did so many things in 2003 that I've just had no idea what title of that post would have been the best..Let's start from a very interesting, serious  tv role. He played in the tv drama called 'Agency'. The serial followed the inner-workings of the CIA and its war with Al Queada. One of the producers was Shaun Cassidy. The serial had a very impressive cast : Beau Bridges, Will Patton, Gloria Reuben. But 'Agency' suffered because of  a very bad timing. The pilot, about the planned lethal attack on western countries was to premiere at the CIA headquarters on September 18, 2001.

The episode with DC was called 'War,Inc.' and was one of the last episodes of that unlucky serial. It was aired on CBC on April 26, 2003. David played a wealthy CEO, who lost over 200 employees on 9/11. He was very convincing in the role of that hunted man, Everett Price. He also looked just fabulous , mature and very handsome..and his voice..what a shame he didn't have more such roles

In 2003 DC played concerts, just 32 and only in the U.S. He started on February and finished in December. The concerts were just great. David was in fantastic shape and great vocal form, relaxed and happy. He told jokes, laughed and talked with the audience. He always gave everything, even if  sometimes he had to play in difficult weather conditions , or he and his band reached the place just an hour or two before the concert. And David Cassidy had a new , great drummer. Teri Cote. Just listen to this..Amazing..

Fans were very happy. '..he was in the best mood, and so generous, and signed one autograph after another while he was singing.(..) The guards were trying to get us to sit down and David said :' oh, don't make them sit down!' And he smiled at us, it was a happy, different David.' (Lancaster, PA , Donna's review)

Those concerts were for fans. Some people still couldn't undertand why that bond was so strong."DC is obviously being used to be loved. Cassidy's show was equal part nostalgia, Vegas and Velveeta' (April18, 2003,M.Rowland 'a Lot Of Love With a Cheese On Top')

On November3rd , in the UK , a new DC's album 'A Touch Of Blue' was released by Universal, with new material and a bonus CD with old hits, it was again produced by Ted Carfrae. The songs were covers with one exception - 'New York City Life' penned by David. What can I say..what a shame , pity there were not more songs like that one. David Cassidy : 'Sue thinks it's the best song I've written in the last..I don't know ..maybe ever' he said almost cautiously 'I hate to make statements like -it's the best- but it's one of the better things I've written' ( 2003April10, Mark Wyckoff, Inside Ventura County)

There were also other great bluesy/jazzy covers. Listening to DC singing  only one word comes to mind - a crooner. Crooners , real singing masters of jazz or blues standards. Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin...and David Cassidy on that album

Each song was carefully played, beautifully sung and recorded live in LA.This is my fav one , Paul Simon's 'Mother And Child Reunion'

On October 21st David sang 'God Bless America' during the baseball game ( the 7th inning stretch of Game 3 of the World Series in Miami - very complicated) , but the most important is that it was a great honour for him, being an American and a huge sport fan, quite an unique experience. 'God Bless America' is not easy to sing acapella, standing alone in the middle of a huge stadium.. 30 years eariler he performed in such places, but he was young and girls were screaming. This time it was only his voice and people who were listening to him and singing with him. David was great.

  1. It was a great discovery for me to hear "Mother & Child Reunion" in David's voice. It was always one of my favorites from Paul Simon.

    1. Yes, David's cover is..amazing, I mean it's a great song and I always liked it..but DC made sth special. Maybe I should have written that I have some problems with 2 songs from that album. Most songs are DC's best, but I don't like..or better say I don't lsten to 'Walk Away Renee' and 'More Than Words'. Maybe I will change my mind, it's happened with some songs from 'Romance' album. Thanks for your comment Encarni.
