Cry /Churchill Kohlman/

Yes, that song wasn't written by Johnnie Ray. That's amazing, the things I've learned because of David Cassidy, like the story of that particular song. It was a big hit with Johnnie Ray's version in 1951, and Jack Cassidy loved that song and sang it to his small son. And later it became a very special concert song for DC. He recorded 'Cry' for his 'Then And Now' album in 2001, but first of all , David's concerts' versions of 'Cry' were always very moving and he thanked his dad for introducing that song to him. Here is DC singing it in 2008.

This is one of the rare DC's songs I haven't liked at the beginning..I'm still not a fan of 'Walk Away Renee' or 'More Than Words', but I know it can change, it's happened before with some other songs , eg. with Cry.

But let's return to 2006. David Cassidy played only 20 concerts that year. Some of them were performed in difficult conditions, in small casinos' halls, sometimes with very random audience. Sometimes DC was mobbed ,as fans tried to get on stage and pull a towel from his hands. But they were great concerts.

In 2006 DC resigned from his sexy backing vocal girls. Instead his band consisted of four  amazing musicians who played for him for some time. Together with David they started to look like a band, not like a group accompanied a famous singer. They were : Matt Sullivan - the guitarist , Frank Fabio - bass, Teri Cote - drums , and Rob Cooke - keyboard.

And David Cassidy looked different. He left his Las Vegas image behind, instead he wore a white shirt and dark jeans. He looked younger and ..vulnerable.

One of the best concerts of 2006 was on August 19th at Canyon Club, Aguora Hills, CA. A faithful life-long fan, Cat Ortiz-White, wrote, that although she saw David in concert many times, that one was the most awesome. DC was in great form and 'he was trying to make physical contact with as many fans as possible'. in the audience there was also 83 year old Evelyn Ward and all DC's brothers - Shaun, Patrick and Ryan. And it was very moving when at the end  David dedicated the last song to Jack Cassidy, who died nearly 30 years ago . David said : 'With my brothers, my family and my mom all here, I think they know he is shining his light down on us tonight' . And he sang 'Cry'.  So once again. This is a live tv recording...David  was just amazing ...

In August 2006 DC gave a long interview to John Moser. They talked about many serious things , but at the end they had some real fun when David answered the same questions he was asked by teen mags so many years ago :

John :'What is your fav colour? David :( Let's out a deep breath) 'Oh, I don't know. I'm sort of color blind (laugs) I can't answer that..OK, a car just drove by. I like the color blue.'

John : 'What's the first thing you notice about a girl?' David : 'Their eyes'

John : 'What's your favourite place?' David : 'Saratoga Springs, NY'

On Nov13th , Sony released in the UK David's new album called 'David Cassidy and The Partridge Family Could It Be Forever, The Greatest Hits', the album included 25 songs chosen by DC. He said about those old TPF's songs : 'It's like you had opened  an old chest and found there great jewels - those great heirlooms - inside, but they're all yours. TPF is still alive in the public consciousness. We sold 25 million records. I'm really proud of it.' (Nov6th, 2006, Nathan Oravec :Mr Popular', www.gazette.net)

This is one of those jewels..
