Cassidy Live !

During his career David Cassidy played more than 600 concerts. The first one in Seattle on March 26th, 1971 , the last ever in New York, also in March, 4th, 2017. Three live albums were published - 'Cassidy Live!' (1974, Bell Records), 'David Cassidy : His Greatest Hits Live' ( 1986, Starblend Records), David Cassidy Live in Concert' (2008, Warner). We also have some audio recordings from the 70s , and videos of  his live performances on various tv programmes or concerts from every decade, we can watch and listen to them on You Tube.

David Cassidy was a brilliant live performer, from the beginning. From that  very first concert, when he didn't know what to expect because  never before he was singing for such an audience - thousands of screaming girls.

'I needed have worried about whether the kids were going to like me. They were screaming- and in some cases fainting- before I got my first note out. I rushed through the show. Everything was going 150 miles an hour. I felt overhelmed by the strength of the reaction I was getting.' (David Cassidy ;'Could It Be Forever', 2007) .

He always gave 100%, a lot of songs he performed live were better than studio originals. In the 70s he also wanted to educate his audience, he often sang different versions of his hits and played rock songs he loved himself. Buffalo Springfield's 'For What Is Worth' by David, with his guitar intro, wow..it's just unbelieveable, the original compering with his version is just..blant.

He also wanted to get connected with his audience, that give-take thing, sharing experience, excitement, love. It was his job, he earned a lot of money, but there was something more, something that even people who never saw him in concert, people like me, we can also feel that too ,when we watch the videos.

Even in the 70s when a lot of critics wrote not about his music  but about the phenomenon , there were such reviews like that one from 1973 : '..he is a professional entertainer, happy in his work, and possessed a wealthy degree of talent. A rather disappointing verdict for those who came to mock , but Cassidy is a lot better than many of teen idols who troded the boards of Empire Pool before him . He showed he had real vocability and an understanding of the art of rock that communicated, even through the screams' (Chris Welch, The Melody Maker)

'Cassidy Live!' that amazing set full of energy, every song rocks on this album. David had a great band, fantastic background singers, they played together on his  1974 World Tour, but the one who was the boss, the one in command on this album was David Cassidy. When I signed the petition about inducting DC to Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame, I also wrote that if 'Cassidy Live!' was not rock enough for them..

But my number 1 of his live performance in the 70s, is audio recording from Rotterdam, March 11, 1973, the concert which could have been a tragedy, because microphones were wrongly connected and last minute checking had saved David's life. This recording is just amazing..'Two Time Loser', 'Cherish', 'I'm A Man' ..It also shows how touring was a hard work for David at the time. Not everything sounds perfect, but he was still learning and  gave 100%..How I envy those lucky fans who saw David Cassidy in concert.
