Partridge Up a Pear Tree
This episode was aired on February 19th ,1971 (Season 1(21). Keith and his first car, buying it left him broke and in Danny's power. The car was a junk and Keith coudn't earn money for restoring it.Poor Keith , but at least his girl friend (19 year old Annette O'Toole) was understanding and cared for him, not for the car.Of course..Everybody laughed when Shirley told Keith : 'you know, if you keep up the hard work, you might owe your first million before you're 30!'..David earned much more.. And what's more when he was 17 had much better car than Keith.
He got his driving licence when he was 16 and Evelyn , his mother, gave him her 1959 Oldsmobile convertible. I don't know if I would have done the same, such an impressive big car for a boy who loved adventures. No doubt David was happy, a great car to go to a drive -in movie with a girl or for a double date ,the car was big enough. In 1970 he had a 1968 blue Ford Mustang (like the one on the picture). He wrote about that car in his biography. When they drove in it with Sam , Steve and two girls to Tuna Canyon in Malibu in the summer of 1970. The policemen looking for drugs pulled everything from David's car, the seats, the floor mats, the spare tyre, his guitar..Found nothing. He drove it to work in 1970 and for several months in 1971. One girl (Dave Madden's friend ) wrote that David liked listening to the radio in his car and that he did smoke a lot and the ashtray was always full.Later he got from Screen Gems his most famous car - White 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. with an elegant navy-blue interior..The original price was $ 5,533 ,even now such a car (used) is worth about $40,000. The best car for a superstar. Henry Diltz made him some famous pics, David sitting on his car, barefoot , a young boy who had a whole world at his feet..Many years later , he had another Corvette , 2009, but he sold this car in 2015..I know all that info because a lot is written about those 2 cars on internet forums. The question everybody asks is - who has David's 1972 Corvette..
But in the 80s the time came when David lost everything : "My only possesions were the things I could carry out of the house. I didn't have a car. I didn't have a job. And I didn't have anywhere to live.' (David Cassidy :'Could It Be Forever', 2007)...Forget the house..he didn't have a car..Of course for Americans cars mean something different than for Europeans..
And the reason for writing this post ? I love driving ..and listening to David's music..A scene from 'Police Story' ,bad quality and..in German...but..

Written by Doreen Walker - Enjoyed this about David's car, only there is one you for got to mention that he had photos taken with it and thats the BMW which David bought himself. Yes, i would love to know what happened to David's 1971/2 White Corvette Stingray. As far as i know Screen Gema leased the car, so it would've had to go back when the show ended and if i remember David mentions it in his book "Could It Be Forever", but it would be nice to know what happened to it.
ReplyDeleteThose Screen Gems' people..I've had no idea that the car was leased.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is even leased, when the agreement ended, the company that leased them to Screen Gems would've known that David had driven the white on as the pics of him sitting on it had been seen by then, plus it was well known about that car was given to David for his 21st birthday. There is a very small possibility that it is in a collection somewhere, i'm sure the company that leased would've made a fuss about the fact that David drove one of there cars, but then again if it was a regular supplier of cars to the film/tv industry they made not, but there must be a record somewhere what happened to it.
DeleteThanks so much for the info .
DeleteHi weronika, I have enjoyed reading your blog about David and his cars .I may be wrong ,but did David also have a Jaguar E Type as well ? I seem to remember a pic of him with this type of car .
ReplyDeleteThank you Claudette. David Cassidy and his cars, a Jaguar and later a Mini Cooper , and I also haven't written about his drunken driving charges and maybe I should, driving is not just a fun it's first of all a great responsibility.
