The Mirror Master

I have a friend who says that she doesn't like watching films because actors always play themselves, it's not interesting.

I don't know.I think that a really good actor could be himself and at the same time the character he plays..It's difficult to explain..but is it not  like David Cassidy playing Keith Partridge? Keith has a lot from David. Even the way he stands with his hands usually crossed in front of him ,as though he wants to fend off the world and defend himself. David did the same..And Keith , he is  not very smart of course , but he is so sensitive, so insecure and so lonely..Tracy has Chris, Danny has Punky and Gloria, Laurie has boy friends and girl friends..and Keith?..His girl friends come and go..

David Cassidy never really played a good , dramatic, really significant role in an important movie or tv series. In the 70s a lot was written that he was to play Paul Getty III, I heard  about a film with Goldie Hawn. He was offered a title role in a film version of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. When he was married to Kay Lenz, a friend was writing a script for them..and so on. Nothing came of those plans.

It's not easy to be objective watching David in his (mostly tv roles), for obvious reason. His eyes, smile, voice, sex appeal.. you know what I mean. I think he was the best when he played someone like him, a complex character. He was great in Bonanza when we were wondering if this pretty boy really could have killed the teacher?...All his pre TPF roles are interesting because they are ambiguous, he played a thief, an addict, and his characters were in conflict with a father or stepfather.

David was great in 'Police Story', and what a shame that he didn't get 'Emmy' for it, maybe it would have made a difference, this role was a chance for a big career again.I love his performance as Joey Mitchell in Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He played himself there, a former superstar, even sang his own song 'When I'm a Rock'N'Roll Star'.

And Mirror Master..He was just great.

It was a role on the original "The Flash' tv series , the episode called 'Done with Mirrors' ,was aired on April 29, 1991 on CBC. David Cassidy played Sum Scudder (Mirror Master) a mirror and hologram manipulating criminal, who steals an advanced battery. And his role was very well received by fans. Not DC's fans. The Flash' fans.

David said about his character : 'He's a very clever and cunning adversary for The Flash. I was definitely not interested in playing him as a cartoon. People who see the show will find him despicable, but I found him thoroughly enjoyable and very charming , and very charismatic.' Of course.

Ive seen this episode once, now there are only fragments on YT , and this review :
