Then I'll Be Someone /Carl Wilson, Tandyn Almer/

'The skin is brown and clear, stretched taut across the cheekbones. He is Yes, much thinner than of yore. And yes, boyishly good-looking. The eyes though, are red. It's almost as if the eyes belonged to someone else, some alien, raw and red as a carrot, snuck into this taut sun-kissed epidermis.(..) He just woken up, those eyes, so very terribly raw, gave an immediate impression/parallel of Dorian Gray.(..).. lights another link in the chain of Marlboro's he's threaded the interview with.' David Cassidy as he was seen in April 1976 (G.Dadomo, Sounds Magazine, April 3, 1976) the next day he was a guest star on  Russell Harty Show and he sang that song..

Co-wrote by that crazy forgotten genius Tandyn Almer, the song is discussed not only by David's fans http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?topic=13974.0 , it was never released.

Those two  years after leaving TPF and when he  stopped  touring, was one of the worst in David Cassidy's life. It's always very difficult to start something new. Even moving out, taking a new job, become a parent  or any change in our life could be very stressful. And in David's case it was something difficult to imagine.

For 4 years he was constantly working, everything was organized for him, recording sessions, work on the set, press or tv conferences, tv programmes, hired people took care of the transport, ordered his meals and even picked up women for him. His business managers took care of his money. David never paid for anything, others did it for him (using his money of course). Fans worshipped him. It wasn't a normal life , it was life in a bubble, without enough time to stop and think. He was surrounded by his entourage, and people who wanted something from him, but he was very lonely. And one day everything ended and  he really was left alone. He discovered that he'd lost not only purpose in life, most of his fans and his fame, but also a lot of money which was stolen from him  He had a breakdown and started drinking..alone.

'I had no idea how to start rebulding the real me, not the pop star. The easiest course to take was to just shut down.(..) I couldn't sleep and there was no joy in being awake.(..) The clean-living hard working vegetarian turned into this guy who was willing to try anything  to take him outside of himself. I didn't care' (David Cassidy :Could It Be Forever, 2007)

In later years David Cassidy in many interviews said that he was not doing anything at the time. Traveling incognito, thinking about his plans, enjoying his freedom..Maybe, but first of all he was working very hard making great music. He wrote, co-wrote and co-produced  and played on every single song on these 3 great albums recorded for RCA in 1975 and 1976..I will write about them in the next post..
