Any Dream Will Do /Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice/

The musical 'Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat', was written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1968. The show has little spoken dialogue, and  at first it was a 25 minute pastiche for the junior school choir. It's almost entirely sung-through, and  a family-friendly kind of story.

That production of 'Joseph'  had run on Broadway at the Royale Theatre (now Bernard B.Jacobs Theatre) since January 1981. It was very successful and David took over the title role in March 1983, he played Joseph until September that year, later touring with it in the U.S. and Canada.(also in 1984)

I don't know who and  how did this  recording, a lot of fans came from all corners of the U.S. and also from Europe, to New York, to see David in that show, and they tried filmed what they could. It's really extraordinary, very poor quality of course, but we can see what kind of show it was, and what a shame that instead making great records.. But I know that David Cassidy really loved performing at the theatre and he was a charismatic performer

He got very good  reviews : 'David Cassidy has a pleasant if not remarkable voice, more than adequate for the part of Joseph. But with a flashing smile and good humor, he has undoubted stage presence. He knows how to work the audience.'(Dec7,1983, R.Crew, Toronto Star)

And my fav one :'the show has a stellar exponent in David Cassidy, whose Joseph might be described as The Sex Symbol that went down into Egypt. I'm sure the dreams he inspires are much easier to interpret...Cassidy sings beautifully and throws himself into the show' (Dec8,1983, R.Conlogue).

Yes, he sings very beautifully. I'm not a fan of musicals myself, and I think that DC did them  for money of course, because he  loved working at the theatre, and last but not least it was his dad's influence. 'to be respected, hard working actor..like my father' - we heard DC saying this many times..

.This is my fav live recorded version of 'Any Dream Will Do'

One more review :'Cassidy drew applause before uttering even a syllabe..singing clear and strong with his expressive voice..was clearly professional in his stage movements and facial expression, they could be read in all the corners of the theatre, a technique not required in tv. But be sure to bring your ear plugs when the girls start to scream over Cassidy..' (By Rufo, Jul1984)

 It never changed..screaming..
