For What Is Worth /Stephen Stills/

I wrote in the previous post that recording by David 'If I Didn't Care ' was unusal..but playing live  "For What Is Worth' in 1974 ..that was really  something.. And the way David and his band, and  his great back singers Gloria and Trish played and sang it.. It was truly amazing. David also played the guitar. But of course it's nothing unusal if  we know that Stephen Stills  was one of teenage David Cassidy's musical heros, and that he saw Buffalo Springfield on stage in the 60s. Or he even took part in those curefew riots (so called hippie riots) this song was inspired  by. They took place in November 1966, in LA, DC was 16 years old and we know that he did what he wanted ..I wonder..  Anyway, his live cover is outstanding, I wish no fans could listen to it (including one Polish music critic who told me that DC was a singer for little girls). This recording can really change opinion of many, if  they only want to listen to DC without prejudice..

I'm writing about that amazing recording to underline the fact what everybody (fans always knew it) noticed again in 1991, that David Cassidy was an outstanding live performer. His 1991 tour was rather low key but didn't pass unnoticed by enthusiastic fans and music critics ..There were a lot of reviews and tv appearances.

David started his tour on Sep13, 1991, he played 31 concerts (also in Canada) , and finished in November. Danny Bonaduce worked as a warm-up. It was a stand-up performance and a great one. He was intelligent, funny and he could talk for hours. Thanks to David , for Danny that tour was a beginning of a new career,  and later he became  a successful radio personality. This is a link to a video with a whole show from that tour, and it's just fantastic , really it's enough to watch and listen DC playing 'Common Thief' to wake up with happy smile and full of energy  on every morning..What a performance, I love it. ( it starts at 54 minutes)

From one of the reviews : 'It could have  easily been a bad joke to see 70s icon come to life on a tiny stage. But the joke was on anyone who doubted Cassidy's intention, ability and candour. He left his sweat, his heart and his songs on the stage that night. He really can play the guitar. He really can sing. He really is a captivating performer. You should have been there.' (N.Aparicio :The Best Local Rock Shows of 1991.January2nd, 1992, Baltimore Sun)

And from Washington Post , Dana Thomas about DC's New York concert - 'Danny's opening - Welcome  to David Cassidy's First Annual Ex-Child Star Work Release Program - the crowd embraced them both, like long-lost pets. His audience, still screaming..(..) Still boyish, still skinny, still long-haired, although it's thinner and highlighted grey. Deep crow's feet creeping from the corners of those devastating, long-lashed brown eyes. His voice is deeper. But the smile, that smile..he can still make a pair of female knees wobble.' The Washington Post, October3, 1991)

David became a frequent guest on many popular programmes : eg. on the 'Geraldo Show' (he was interviewd by Geraldo in June 1974 on Good Night America) He was often invited, he was a very good kind of guest, witty and funny, and also because his story was a kind of  everybody loved - he was on top and fell down and he made it again. This is the best programme DC was a guest star in 1991. At the beginning of it we can see something really special - David and Sue singing together, working on a new song.(1.54 m)
