This single was released in 1979 (MCA Records with the b side - 'Once A Fool' . It was a cover of 1965 hit..What can I say..it should have been a hit for David , it's a great version, absolutely his own, like no other covers of that song (there were many), very soulful , his voice was so smooth..It  really 'hurts so bad'  that it was his last released recording in the 70s. The next album with the new material appeared only 6 years later..When I think about the songs we could have had..In 1979 he was 29 ..
But it wasn't a hit for him, instead for Linda Ronstadt who released her cover in March 1980.

When David Cassidy married Kay Lenz in April 1977, they became a very popular, celebrity couple. They took part in many charity events and tv programmes. Unfortunately no video has survived , just 1 or 2 from 1977 with DC alone, I love this one :

They gave interviews . On June 17th appeared an article in which was written that Kay worked from dawn till dusk and her husband..did nothing. When asked about it ,Kay defended David ,he had worked so hard for 5 years so it was no wonder that he still felt like taking a rest. ' Musically, he's not doing much at the moment. But he does have ideas about what he wants to do..'
But, not only ideas. First of all, he was working on his own material ,and when on November 25th 1977  took part in 'TPF/My Three Sons Reunion', he sang a song which he recorded later in 1979 .

In 1977 and in  1978 he did backing vocals on four albums, his friends' mostly, Richie Furay's, Randy Meisner's , Jim Krieger's and Ted Gardestad's. He also sang on America's album in 1976. Of course Randy Meisner's  "Take It To The Limit' is the most famous ..but I really like Richie Furay's songs made with DC's help :

In 1978 and in 1979 David worked on a new album with the famous Ken Mansfield , the former US manager of the Apple Records, and a very known producer. At the time his career was also in decline. Many years later he wrote about David :
'It took me about 10 minutes after meeting him to realize my original opinion about him was wrong. He had a super sense of material and this wonderful voice that allowed him to face on any vocal challenge'. They became friends. ' David had the most incredible laugh I have ever heard from any human being..his laughter came rolling out from deep within  and would make me feel good all over.', 'he was the most delightful performer I have ever worked with and also the most intriguing' They had a lot of fun together..(Ken Mansfield : The White Book : The Beatles, The Bands, The Biz', 2007)
But those recorded songs weren't released in 1979, bad timing, bad luck.. new music appeared  out of the blue - The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Police , Dire Straits, The Ramones...David Cassidy's music sounded passe, from another era.
