Stand And Be Proud /David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin/

In the early 90s David became a celebrity in the U.S. again. He was often invited to many tv shows, his wedding pics were in 'Hello' magazine, and his fellow musicians really respected him as an artist. On March 25th 1992 DC took part in the 40th anniversary of a very popular weekly tv show called  American Bandstand (David took part in it himself in 1970). He was invited to jam on stage as a guitarist, with a lot of very known musicians to accompany Bo Diddley..We can see on that video that it gave him a lot of satisfaction being in that company.

But on April 29th 1992 everybody in LA forgot about music. That day , a jury acquitted four officers of the LA Police Department for usage of excessive force in the arrest and beating of Rodney King. This verdict resulted in a series of riots (they ended on May 4th) , the biggest in the U.S. in the 20th century. 83 people were killed, 2383 were injured, more than 12 000 were arrested, 3767 buildings were burned..Can you imagine..

A lot of fans don't remember or even never heard about DC connection with this event. He didn't tell about his role in it. And believe me many people would boast about it over and over again. He wrote with Sue a song called 'Stand And Be Proud', and that song became an anthem for the Rebuild LA campaingn..It was recorded and videotaped on June 6th at the Hollywood Bowl and featured about 2000 musicians, proffesional and amateur, they called themselves The Voice Of The City..David is  in it with Sue and Beau just for a few moments, at 1.23 and at 6 min of that extraordinary video..I couldn't find it on YT, the only place you can see it is on David Cassidy Official Website..

Everybody worked for free and the song and video were played at the same time on 'Good Morning America' and on 5000 radio stations across the whole country on July 29th.

David and Sue didn't take part in that recording and didn't do any media. Thanks to their song and that video in 5 days 2 millions were gathered.
