David Cassidy In Popular Culture. Part 1 . Music

This is something I've wanted to write many times and first of all to share with you some songs or articles I've found while writing this blog.

David Cassidy in popular culture.

What does it mean to be a popular culture icon? This is something or someone which or who is generally recognized, at once, it can be a popular belief, an image of a certain view, an object like a can of soup or an image of someone..Because also real  people can become pop culture icons...They are forever stuck in one moment in time..When we say eg 'Rita Hayworth' we can imagine her in 'Gilda', in her first dramatic role, singing 'Put The Blame On Mame' .It doesn't matter that she had a different name or that she starred in other films. She is like a beautiful butterfly, pinned forever in display case for all of us to admire..And when people hear ; 'David Cassidy'..they imagine  a beautiful boy with long hair, in bell bottoms, puka shells, singing I Think I Love You..And nothing we fans could do, would change this..His iconic hit is used in advertising :

or in cartoon:

the same is with  C'mon Get Happy

Happy songs , carefree  70s,  the most beautiful boy, a teenage dream..Everybody happy. Of course the 70s weren't that happy, also David.. but who cares..But I'm glad that DC's music is still an inspiration for young musicians. I've already written a post (Jan27th) about the song called 'David Cassidy' (Betty And The Werevolves) which is about DC, a teen idol. Here is a great rock cover of  'I Woke Up In Love This Morning'. I love it.

But the most important and moving  is that people, normal people, (not professional musicians) from all over the world still enjoy and play and  sing David Cassidy's songs..Like one of  my English friends who's started playing the guitar again after 45 years. Or like those people (and some babies) singing   'It's One of Those Nights (Yes, Love)

or that happy band and the audience performing ITILY together

How I'd like to see a contest for young musicians from all over the world singing DC's songs..

Recently I've talked with someone who knew David Cassidy personally, and I asked about DC's concerts after 2000, when fans were singing with him, especially in the UK..Every night the same old hits..Daydreamer, How Can I Be Sure, Could It Be Forever...I Think I Love You..So boring.. And she said that of course it was his job, but first of all David loved making his fans happy..
