The Rat Pack Is Back ..the most difficult post so far for yours truly.

It's going to be very difficult, and I have no idea if anyone will read it.. because first of all I don't know a lot about the Original Rat Pack, they were very famous in America, but not at all in Poland (on the contrary) .Of course I know Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin (remember that TPFepisode about hamsters, I'm joking) etc, but I haven't  heard much about that phenomenon, The Rat Pack, and there is no video with DC in The Rat Pack Is Back (he made guest appearances as Bobby Darin eg in 2004, and in preview shows in New York in 2005), and I'm sure I will make a lot of mistakes..but I can't only write about the things I want to or know about.  And maybe someone knows more and will write a comment..We'll see..This is a video about The Original Rat Pack

In October 1998 David Cassidy announced that he would leave EFX at the end of the year. From 1996 he had brought a new quality to the show and was named the best Las Vegas entertainer, the best singer and he became an important member of the LV community. Richard Sturm, senior vice-president of MGM Grand Worldwide Entertaintment: 'With his wit, warmth and infectious enthusiasm, David has helped make EFX the city's premier production. We're grateful for his contributions to the show as well as to our community and we wish him every success in the future.'(October8th, 1998 www.lasvegassun.com)

David chose not to renew his contract, but he performed right to the end of it, and the next day went to hospital for his foot surgery. The stage on which the EFX was performed was made of steel to support sets weighting 9 tones.. And already in hospital he started preparing a new show, The Rat Pack Is Back. When David was 11 years old, Jack and Shirley took him to Las Vegas to see Frank Sinatra. DC loved it, and was also a great fan of Bobby Darin, who was someone like him, very talented  actor and singer who became a teen idol, and was also an occasional member of The Rat Pack. His life was very tragic, Bobby  died in 1973, only 37. Here he is singing his great hit and of course girls are screaming..

David wrote the show with his friend, the known tv writer Don Reo. It was about one evening at the club, where Frank Sinatra celebrated his 46th birthday. The Rat Pack, four of them and their young protegee, Bobby Darin, performed and sang their famous songs. That's all. DC not only co-wrote the show but also produced and directed. It was shown at the iconic Desert Inn , where Frank Sinatra debuted in 1951. DC as Bobby was sensational, he sang 'Mack The Knife' and 'Beyond The Sea'

The Rat Pack Is Back was a sellout, but from the start there were problems with the familes of the members of the original Rat Pack. David owned  the U.S. trademark for The Rat Pack Is Back, The show was moved for 3 years to Sahara Hotel, in 2005 was to open in New York, there were previewes , but at the very last moment the show was cancelled. There were rumours about problems with unions..Uff..The end

And  let's for a change watch that fantastic programme from 1971 where 21 year old teen idol, David Cassidy sang Mack The Knife ( and other hits ) for the very first time.. He was great,  not worse than the great artists with whom he performed. It's amazing how even so young he could sing so different kind of music. And it wasn't prerecorded or something.I've watched this programme many times...but is it possible that it was 50 years ago ...and all  those great entertainers have gone forever..?

Desert Inn was a true iconic hotel .DC's show was the last great act performed there. The hotel was demolished in 2000, everybody felt it was a symbolic end of the old, good Las Vegas
