Saratoga Springs . Part 1

 Saratoga Springs, New York..I like the sound of this name, it reflects the presence of mineral springs in the area. In 1767 William Johnson, a British soldier, was brought by Native American friends to the spring to treat his war wounds. The place became a popular spa in the 19th century. A race course was open in 1863. And The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame was founded in 1951, 70 years ago..Very charming city with a population about 27 000

David Cassidy : 'No matter how I was busy, my contract always stated that I got a week off from August 7 to 14 so I could attend Saratoga.'(2005)

David Cassidy's favourite place in the world, he bought there his first yearling in 1974, and a house in the 21st century. And it was in Saratoga, in 2008, at a  fundraising gala , where he publicly stated being an alcoholic. And also there he performed his community service hours in 2015

Gary Contessa : 'Nobody loved Saratoga like David did. He had a home in Saratoga, he came to the races every day and he loved the horses. During the meet he could be found at 3 o'clock in the morning reading the racing form and smoking a cigar at my barn' (Saratogatodaynewspaper.com , Feb15, 2018)

Already in 2018 two benches were placed in DC's honor at the National Museum of Racing's courtyard. One of them we owe to Samantha Cox. Life long fan, she opened a public FB page in January 2018, to rise money for a bench honoring David Cassidy, $2.500 was needed. Fans from all over the world donated. The other bench was from DC's close friends, Jerry and Darlene Bilinski and Gary and Jennifer Contessa

On May20th a special event was organized at Saratoga, David Cassidy Fans' Day, the courtyard was open to public with free admission, and several dozen fans appeared not only from the USA. That event was thought as one-time gathering, But Samantha Cox decided it should have been an annual thing.

But it was not everything that year, and on August14th, David's band met again and performed on stage, for the first time without David. Teri Cote, Craig Snider, Dave Robicheau, Matt Sullivan, Vance Brescia and Darrell Craig Harris. It was a special tribute concert held in Saratoga , and also it was a benefit for Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. 

The event organizer, Linda de Ambrosio said :' There's a common thread we share and that thread is David Cassidy. we had him come out of the TV screen and into our living room.' (saratogatodaynewspaper.com, August17, 2018)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. She had birthday yesterday. 3 years younger than David, a few years older than a typical DC's fan.  In the 70s I heard quite a lot about Kay Lenz . She was very popular in Poland, like the rest of the cast of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. That tv series was shown in my country I think in 1978, and everybody watched it, also a lot was written about the cast. So one day I read that Kay's husband was a former teen idol, David Cassidy. There was also a pic and I thought that it was just wonderful, I thought they were the most beautiful couple in the world. There was something very moving about Kay. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
