Sweet Little Angel / a blues standard

I love  discovering the stories behind the DC's songs. He recorded or performed on stage a lot of covers, but he always  added something from himself, from his own experiences, those covers became his own, different and sometimes better than the originals.

This is a story of a song which David Cassidy often performed live in the 2010s, and this blues standard was the last song sung by him on his posthumous 'Songs My Father Taught Me' EP. Fighting with pain, trying to make it, for himself, for his father, for his family and friends, for his band, and for us, his fans. His last gift for us..And the band..OMG, so much love, they played their best. Big words, but  I have to write it - perfection and art.

Sweet Little Angel, it's a blues standard, once it had  another title, and was recorded for the first time by a woman, Lucille Bogan, in 1930 .The most famous version was made by B.B. King  in 1956, and that recording been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of '500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll'.  We know how David loved B.B. King's music, his guitar playing, saw him in concert in the 60s, and even met him after one gig. This is a story of that meeting told by DC himself, and 'Sweet Little Angel' as a tribute (B.B.King died in May 2015)

B.B. King Blues Club in New York, a very special place for  David Cassidy. A music club in his native city, in Manhattan, it must have been for him like returning home, to own roots. B.B. King played there too. David Cassidy performed at the club several times, also  on March4th, 2017, his last concert. The club, so important for NY's music scene, was closed after 18 years on April 29th, 2018.

Playing 'Sweet Little Angel' there was an exceptional moving experience for DC. On March 11th, 2016 David sang at B.B. King's a great duet with Lynne Jordan, a singer and bandleader, and of course DC's fan.

Amazing , such  fun for them and the audience, and something unusal, because DC very rearly sang duets. Great that Lynne's written for us about that concert, you can read her story on the DC website. The review, called 'I sang with David Cassidy' also includes some great off stage pics of Lynne and David.

    1. Yes, they had a lot of fun together. DC could sing really everything, pop and rock and blues and standards, he recorded great music in every decade. Recently I've read a chat transcript (an online meeting with fans) and he said :'I've always strived to do the things that people didn't know I could do or expect I could do..'
