This Could Be The Night / Phil Spector, Harry Nilsson

The stories behind  some of the David Cassidy's songs..Amazing.

'This Could Be The Night' was written in tribute to Brian Wilson, and it's one of three songs that are credited to Nilsson and Spector.

First Harry Nilsson's version. You are going to have a big surprise..I've had

and the original recording by Modern Folk Quartet (yes, with Henry Diltz! Before being a photographer Henry was a folk musician). Phil Spector used the song as the opening theme music for the 1966 rock concert film The Big TNT Show...You can also see some DC's friends in it..

It was also recorded by Henry Diltz himself in 1989, and he sometimes performed it on stage, like in that video from 2014

I'm posting those other versions to underline how an amazing DC's cover is. It appeared on his first RCA's album.  When you listen to Harry Nilsson or MFQ ..it's not so obvious what the song is about..I like Brian Wilson description : ''Well, the idea they've been dating and waiting and finally they made love..I love the message.' (Alyn Spifton : Nilsson: The Life of a Song Writer)

You don't have to know English to get the message listening to David Cassidy..

Dave Thompson : '...Cassidy's pen is visible all over the place, from 'Rock&RollStar (..) and on to a deeply personalized version of This Could Be The Night' '

'The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall', this precious gem, one of the best in David Cassidy's catalog. The songs stand the test of time, this is a fabulous album. Released exactly 46 years ago, July 1975. Someone wrote about it in 2011 : '..with this album he proved that he was more than a prefabricated star. The listening public may not been ready for that revelation, but 35 years later, the proof of his talent is still to be heard.' (2011, hypebolium.com). So true.
