'David. Do His Kisses Mean Danger?'

I wrote such a blog in December last year. One of my first. Since January 2018 I have been reading teen mags from the David Cassidy Website. They are fascinating read, not only because of David . They are amazing documents of social life of the 70s. Fashion, commercials, contests, fan clubs, problem columns. The 70s was a golden time for teen mags. And in the first part of that decade David Cassidy was the biggest  star. I've been carried  away a little bit and wrote it in that old blog :

'Millions of girls bought those mags. They waited impatiently for a new issue and new info, pics, posters. And they put David's posters on their bedroom walls. Millions of girls and in every bedroom David was looking at them and yet at just them. And when they were going to sleep they kissed his pics and his eyes were the first thing they looked at in the morning..'

One more disc with David's message, this time Tiger Beat Official TPF Magazine, and a link to the page from DC Website. Maybe someone still has those discs and will share with us..

Girls removed DC's pics from those magazines and put them in scrapbooks..2 years ago I had a chance to see an amazing collection of such scrapbooks made in the 70s by one of my English friends..It took me nearly 4 hours to watch all of them, and while doing it I repeated..many times- 'wow!' and 'amazing !'..On the other hand a lot of magazines were destroyed bc of those scrapbooks and it's a shame that we don't have more articles on the website. I'm really grateful for Carmen who keeps taking scans of her collection for us, They are priceless. Thank you so much for your work.

At first, in 1970, David tried to collaborate with teen mags, it was part of his job after all. His closest friend Sam Hyman even started writing (actually he didn't do the writing only told some stories to ghostwriters) a monthly column for 'Tiger Beat', called 'Living With David'..

The girls wanted to know everything about David - 'Where he lives? How his home looks like? What he eats for breakfast? For lunch? For dinner? Favourite drink. Fav food. Fav colour. Fav singer, film, animal. Hobbies. What kind of girls he likes? With blond, black or red hair? Does he prefer girls with long or short hair? With blue, green or brown eyes? Has he got a girlfriend? Why not? What he thinks..'

In 1970  he was sincere, but very quickly there was a real madness, even the titles on the covers became scary : 'Help! David's In Danger!, 'Why David Cries And Cries?', 'Danger Ahead! David Wants You!', 'Why David Must Leave You Forever?' and my fav title (not so scary) - 'Win David's Love. Find Out How.'

There were endless contests, eg. 'Make seven words out of 'David Cassidy' (those two delicious words!) and win personally autographed TPF album, with a special message from David' (Flip mag, Jan 1971). Poems were written for him..

He tried to stop it, even talked with Larry Utall about it, but it was too late. Too many people earned a lot of money on him. Nobody cared what David  thought..

xxxxxxx

And one more thing. Ron Tutt, a legendary famous drummer died 3 days ago. He played for Elvis, Ray Orbison, Billy Joel, the Carpenters, Neil Diamond..and for David Cassidy. On that track :
