Words Of Love From David Cassidy

That was a brilliant idea, so simple and so clever, a flexi disc presented free with Jackie magazine, David Cassidy's words of love for ..I don't know for how many millions of girls in the UK. Young David's spoken voice (also his 'private' one) was truly magical, innocent and seductive at the same time. I can imagine those girls all over the country, shut in their bedrooms and listening to David speaking to each and every one..how many times? Who knows..

It was a very carefully planned marketing campaign. Not every cover of 'Jackie' had a picture of a singer on it. It was not a music magazine, but a weekly British mag for girls, 'a teenage girl's best friend', published from 1964 to 1993, the number 1 British teen mag in the 70s. Inside each issue girls could find fashion and beauty tips, gossip, short stories, problem page, also interviews with popular singers and actors and pull- out posters

This magazine was so important for a whole generation, those issues with David on the cover or with his posters inside, interviews with him, were the best selling ever. I've found one very touching memory about the 70s, Jackie, those posters, friendship and David Cassidy. It was posted on November22, 2017..

'Part of my childhood died today with David..' Yes..

But let's return to 1973. As I said it was an entire marketing campaign. Of course David appeared on a Jackie's cover much earlier, eg in the autumn of 1972 full-size DC poster was offered over three issues. But 1973 was a truly David Cassidy year. He was on the cover in March (issue 479), in June (492), in July (498), August (500), October (with Donny O., issue 512) and in November (513). It was the November issue which had that disc inside. But it's not everything. Since late August, from the issue nr 503 to 508, was published  a Jackie Special On David Cassidy in Europe. 6 parts. Really impressive.

That November issue with a disc was the culmination of the campaign. Worlds Of Love..I wonder who had written them David speaks about his new album how he'd love to know fans' opinions on it ('why don't you drop me a line and let me know what  you think about it.'), his work, Hawaii, how he enjoyed being in Britain and how'd love coming again, about skiing in Spain. Amazing.. It was like listening to the closest friend who understood and knew everything, like talking with a dream boy...On the disc there were also fragments of two songs from DC's latest album.

One of them was 'Can't Go Home Again'
