Silent Night / Joseph Mohr, Franz Xavez Gruber
Joseph Mohr and Franz Xavez Gruber, from Austria, wrote this timeless Christmas carol at the beginning of the 19th century. The most popular English lyrics were written in 1859, by an American, John Freeman Young. Maybe it's not very important, but..I'm a former librarian, I always want to know who and where and why..
But let's return to David Cassidy. Exactly 45 years after The Partridge Family Christmas Card, DC recorded Christmas standards again. David Cassidy Christmas EP, released on November 13, 2016, by Big Music, available on Amazon and iTunes. 6 songs, 15.45 minutes. Someone wrote on Amazon :'It's fairly short, but it's good and fun all around. If you are expecting David's voice to be exactly as it used to be, then you are being unrealistic. People age, there is wear and tear..'
There is one very good song on that EP. The new Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is great, absolutely fantastic. This is Santa Claus not for kids, he is going to visit some tired and not so good people (at the bar probably..)..But there is hope for everybody. Like always DC had his own way with that classic..And he was superb. And Craig J. Snider and the rest of the DC's band

Of course to really appreciate that EP, we must forget about The Partridge Family Christmas Card. And a lot of fans couldn't..Reading Amazon's reviews is not easy. And I have to admit that until today I avoided listening to this album. Because 3 years ago I watched one or two tv shows with DC promoting his EP. It was painful to watch in 2018..I wasn't ready for it. So Santa once again on Hollywood Live, December 14, 2016..

And only today morning I've listened to 'Silent Night'.from that record for the very first time,.and I haven't expected those words at the beginning of that song..

Just a few words, but..how they touched me..Can you imagine, this little boy so thrilled being the soloist in a choir..at church, at the Holy Trinity Church in West Orange, where David's grandmother was the head of the senior choir. '..my dad came..'. Did Jack promise to come? Or he showed up at the last moment? And the memory of it was so strong, that after 60 years he wanted to tell us about it. In 2016. He said nothing about his son and Sue, after all they were a family for many years and spent Christmas together many times, or about his daughter or his mother..No..'..the first time my dad ever came to hear me sing..'..That was the most important..Poor David..
