December. Tell Me It's Not True / William Russell

December. Even when David was a kid..' Generally, Christmas was one of the saddest times in my childhood because from the time my parents split up until I started seeing my dad in California, both my father and mother were gone.' (David Cassidy: Could It Be Forever?, 2007)

And both of them died in December, Jack, 45 years ago on the 12th, and Evelyn in 2012, on the 23th.

DC wrote about that horrible day, December 12, 1976 in his autobiography, and I've written about this tragedy a few times this year. Parents and children. Father and son. Jack and David. They didn't have a chance to understand each other and forgive, build a relationship on an adult level. Maybe it could have never been possible. Poor DC was left with all that pain  forever, for the rest of his days.

It was  an amazing coincidence ."Shaun Cassidy :' I associate my New York experience (performing with DC on Broadway in Blood Brothers) with our dad and he was very succesful on Broadway, he won a Tony award for 'She Loves Me'. When he arrived in NY several weeks ago, Shaun opened a newspaper and discovered ads for Blood Brothers and She Loves Me running next to each other..' (Sep 3, 1993, Los Angeles Times). Of course I don't know if they thought about Jack while singing it together..

We have some memorable December's DC tv appearances as a guest star from every decade. A year after Jack died, on December 16 th, 1977, David was on 90 Minutes Live, Canadian talk-show, with Flo and Eddie from The Turtles, DC recorded with them  'Darlin' for his 'The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall' album. I know that such tv shows are another acting jobs, there are scripts, rehearsals etc, but this interview looks so natural, like a normal conversation...

In 1982 DC spent a whole month  in Canada , in June co-starred in Bernard Slade's play 'Tribute' at Stage West Dinner Theatre in Calgary. It was his only work that year, besides playing twins in the episode of 'Tales Of The Unexpected' .

It wasn't easy job for him. Because 'Tribute' is a play about Scottie Templeton, a popular actor who has spent his life shirking responsibility. When he discovers he is terminally ill, he attempts to reconnect with his long-estranged son..And yes, DC played that son, Jude,..a whole month.  'Calgary Sun' - ' Cassidy's whole performance is masterfully understated. He is truly a gracious actor, never once stepping outside his character. This is a serious actor working with and for his co-stars.'

And in December he was in Canada again. On  Frank Mills Christmas Special. With Shirley Jones. And Barbara Eden. Smiling and happy of course. The show must go on..
