Ain't No Sunshine / Bill Withers

There are two reasons for writing about it today. 1. No sunshine here at all, the worst kind of winter. Now it's not so cold, but very cloudy, strong wind, raining and when it's not raining it's snowing..Dark at 4 pm..2. Someone's asked me recently why I write only about young DC?? Of course I write not only about the 70s or 80s..but..So today I will write about a song from 'Then And Now', the US release - April 30, 2002, 52 year old David Cassidy.

First the  original, sung by the author Bill Withers. A great live version..with a very happy drummer. I love those comments, why he was smiling all the time..?

I've had no idea how amazing man Bill Withers was. Born in 1938, he died in 2020. In the 70s I loved 'Lovely Day'..another his timeless classic.

He was born with a stutter,  in a small town, one of 6 kids, his father was a miner who divorced his mother when Bill was six. And when he was 17 he enlisted in the US Navy and served for 9 years, it was while in the army when he started writing and playing music . 'Ain't No Sunshine' was a single from his first album released in 1971 (it was a B-side). Bill didn't believe that his album would be successful so at the time he was working at a factory making bathrooms.

It was a great hit, everywhere, and a lot of artists all over the world released own covers. In 1974 the Polish rock band called 'Budka Suflera' made  an amazing version of  'Ain't No Sunshine' with an outstanding new lyrics. This song is very important for a lot of people from my generation in Poland. And 3 years ago the vocalist of the group sang it live while on the radio..He is our Ian Gillan..Krzysztof Cugowski is..

And David's. He played it many times live, in concerts, on various tv programmes, I think I love the most the version  from The Top Of The Pops. David performed on it  in October 2001..I just can't find words (even in Polish), this is something so wonderful, DC's voice here is not from that world, it's taking my breath away anytime I listen to it..

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971. Two Weddings In Las Vegas

First 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. The film premiered in the UK 30 years ago, on May 13, 1994.  A low budget film, made in 6 weeks, became unexpected success, all over the world, earned just mountains of money, and made of  Hugh Grant international star. It's also a film with a very strong David Cassidy's connection.  The script was written by Richard Curtis (born in 1956), whose partner (they married after many years in 2023), a popular broadcaster Emma Freud, was (and still is) a DC fan.
