David Cassidy In London. 1972. Part 2.

So David Cassidy came to London for the first time. But not a hundred fans waited for him, but many, many more. It was insane. It was like everybody, fans and the press alike fell in love with him. 'They had me doing press interviews throughout my whole stay in England, from the moment I'd wake up each day until I went to bed. In a week I became a big national name. It was overhelming.' (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007)

But when exactly DC arrived in London ? It was Saturday, 5th February. A short note appeared  in a popular American music mag called CashBox : 'David Cassidy, pop singer and co-star of TPF tv series will be in England Feb 5 through Feb 10 on a promo tour on behalf of Bell Records. A press conference has been scheduled, and there will also be individal interviews in addition to a special guest spot on the Top Of The Pops tv show.'

Yes..and a lot of special press editions on DC's visit in London, like that one:

Wonderful pics..DC could have had a career in modeling also..

He stayed at the Dorchester Hotel at Park Lane and the hotel was non-stop besieged by fans, night and day. There were about 15 000 of them and they sang David's songs..Of course the traffic had to be stopped..I was outside that hotel in 2019 and also saw some other places connected with DC..it's amazing how nothing has changed, it difficult to think that everything was so long ago..I even wanted to write a kind of a tour guide - David Cassidy in London, but truly speaking what I know about this amazing city. But let's return to February 1972. I'm sure there were more tv and radio interviews but only one survived, but what an interview it was. The first ever (of many) DC's interviews for BBC. On Nationwide, it was BBC news and current affairs programme, broadcast from 1969 to 1983 on BBC1, each weekday following the early evening news. David was interviewed by Michael Barratt, who was Nationwide presenter from 1969 to 1977. And it's amazing, but Michael Barratt who 50 years ago looked old comparing with 21 year old David, he still lives..He was born in January 1928...

It's a fascinating interview. David looked so..beautiful, and so young and vulnerable, and he tried to be sincere even when he told a lie, that he had never met a hippie in his life, but of course at that time he had to protect Keith Partridge image, but it was obvious that he didn't feel good with it. 3 months later 'A Naked Lunch Box' article appeared..
