David Thomas Jones (30 December 1945 - 29 February 2012 ). A singer, an actor, a multi-instrumentalist, a businessman, a jockey, a father..a teen idol. Another great artist from Manchester. He wanted to be a jockey, but resigned when his mother died when Davy was 14 years old. Very early success on stage in 'Oliver!' on West End in London and on Broadway in New York. He was nominated for Tony for it. And appeared on the same historic Ed Sullivan show as The Beatles. Davy Jones : ' I watched The Beatles' from the side of stage, I saw the girls going crazy and I said to myself, 'that is it, I want a piece of that.'

Signed a contract with...Screen Gems, and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 being 19. That's his first solo hit.

The rest is history..And this is amazing that after many years of writing that The Monkees was a manufactured band, an opinion has changed so much. Of course the audience, fans loved them from the start, but also music critics at last noticed that The Monkees had become a self-directed group, playing their own instruments and writing many of their songs..But let's listen again to the song which always makes me smile

And Davy Jones and our David..

David Cassidy : (it was in 1971) 'his manager lived in a house above mine in the Hills and all of a sudden he was standing at the front door'.

But they became real friends when met again in 2006 at the horse track at Saratoga Springs. Both of them loved horses, David Cassidy bred throughbreds, and Davy Jones specialised in training, riding and jump-racing.

On the early morning of 29th February 2012 he went to tend his 14 horses at the farm in Florida, and after riding his fav horses he complained of chest pain. It was too late when he was taken to a hospital and Davy Jones was pronounced dead of a heart attack..Such a sad day for millions..

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. She had birthday yesterday. 3 years younger than David, a few years older than a typical DC's fan.  In the 70s I heard quite a lot about Kay Lenz . She was very popular in Poland, like the rest of the cast of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. That tv series was shown in my country I think in 1978, and everybody watched it, also a lot was written about the cast. So one day I read that Kay's husband was a former teen idol, David Cassidy. There was also a pic and I thought that it was just wonderful, I thought they were the most beautiful couple in the world. There was something very moving about Kay. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
