Song For A Rainy Day / David Cassidy, Kim Carnes

On February 24, David Cassidy's second solo album peaked at #2 in the UK. Maybe let's start with the song DC wrote with Kim Carnes..

Oh yes, very sad..It hasn't been raining today (maybe a little bit), and I'm not sad..but disappointed. Not with DC, but with our petition for Music Walk Of Fame Stone Honour For David Cassidy. So many times we have said and written that people don't remember how important and huge and underrated DC was (and still is), and during 2 days only 194 fans have signed the petition. I know that everybody is busy, we have our lives, our problems, we are not young anymore and not all fans are on social media, and there are many who don't want see their names in print..but only 194..And I have the impression that everyday there are fewer fans or for whom DC, his legacy, is a closed chapter of their lives. As for some of my friends in England who said they were not interested in the petition. Anyway..this is the link (again). I will not give up..

So let's return to 'Rock Me Baby' album, # 41 in the US, 46 in Australia and 9 in Germany. In the US, first in September 1972 was released the title track, and in mid-October it achieved its highest position on Billboard Hot 100, # 38..

It was the first album on which DC was allowed  to play - guitar, keyboards and percussion. The personel was really impressive - Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Joe Osborn, Max Bennett, Mike Melvoin,  Larry Carlton, Louie Shelton, Dean Parks, Kim Carnes Dave Ellingson Chuck Findley Ollie Mitchell, Dick Hyde, Jackie Ward..Creme de la creme of the LA session musicians.

'Farrell stayed as producer, but the mix of material saw the performer's own tastes coming through making for a somewhat schizophrenic set which mixed the expected pop ballads with rock-tinged numbers. With 'How Can I Be Sure' Cassidy succeeded where both Rascals and Dusty Springfield failed, taking the song to number 1 in Britain.' (Richard Philips-Jones).

' Former teen idol David Cassidy's second solo album for Bell Records, is an attempt at blue-eyed soul, that for most part works well. "Rock Me Baby' was more expressive than anything he was allowed to record on The Partridge Family sessions..These 11 tracks show off Cassidy's vocal range (..) Although Wes Farrell provided the production it's obvious that Cassidy had input in the direction and material . (Al Campbell, AllMusic)

And once again Richard Philips- Jones from his review on the set called 'David Cassidy. The Bell Years 1972-1974 ' :

'Bell Records..chronicle of pigeonholed talent getting restless. That its varied and eclectic contens were created when the performer was simultaneusly working on a hit tv series and trying to keep his sanity in check in a whirlwind of hysteria is a reason enough to be impressed..'
