A Knight In Shining Armor

The last episode from The Partridge Family Season 1. First aired on March 19, 1971, and the script was written by the TPF's creator, Bernard Slade, and there is a reason I write who wrote a script for that episode.

Bernard Slade (May 2, 1930 - October 30, 2019 (yes, already 3 years have passed), was born in Canada, but his parents were English, and they returned to their native country in 1935. Bernard spent World War II as a child evacuee, moving constantly and attending 13 schools in 7 years.

He returned to Canada when he was 18, and  struggled to make a living as an actor, a theatre producer and playwright. So he had to took odd jobs to make ends meet, like..handing out leaflets on the streets of Toronto dressed as..a knight in a full suit of armor..

From that episode, 'Stephanie', wrote by Richard Klein, John Henning and David Price. And sang by two teen idols, Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy..

So yesterday I was writing a synopsis of that episode, just 6 left to finish our project, and I took some screen shots, and published 5 or 6 on my FB page. It's amazing to observe how the TPF's producers were trying during that first season to find the perfect Keith's image. David, as Keith, looks different in each episode. They experimented with his hair and the classic Keith/David hair developed in the Season 2.

My FB friend, Wanda has written that a lot of guys wore such clothes like DC in 'A Knight In Shining Armor'. And she is absolutely right, I remember such boys from school. We had even one in our class, he wore such shirts (also pink) and those tank top sweater vests, very pretty boy, blue eyes, long, blond hair, but he was very conceited and unkind, and he never talked with me during those 4 years at school..Maybe once. It remains me that girl who attended with Keith history class in the episode from Season 4,  'Keith and Lauriebelle'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. She had birthday yesterday. 3 years younger than David, a few years older than a typical DC's fan.  In the 70s I heard quite a lot about Kay Lenz . She was very popular in Poland, like the rest of the cast of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. That tv series was shown in my country I think in 1978, and everybody watched it, also a lot was written about the cast. So one day I read that Kay's husband was a former teen idol, David Cassidy. They Said I Changed A Lot..

Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
