'His Greatest Talent Was Singing'

After the yesterday's entry my good FB friend, Gwen, has written a comment, that she's had no idea that 'Looking Through The Eyes Of Love' wasn't an original David Cassidy's song. That it was a cover.

It happens quite often that I have such feedback. Of course many good songs have been covered many times by various artists. It's absolutely understandable, that's the way it is in that business. Btw the most covered song in the music history is 'Yesterday', with more than 1600 recorded cover versions. Can you imagine? 1600!

Of course the covers David Cassidy recorded for The Partridge Family and his 2 first solo albums  were chosen by Wes Farrell, not by DC himself. And in the 70s we were too young to remember many of the originals. Wes looked for popular, good songs, but not for those everybody remembered. Popular all over the world. Sure 'Cherish' and 'How Can I Be Sure' were great hits in the US in the 60s, but I know some English fans interested not only in the DC's music, who never heard the original versions of that songs in the 70s, (me too). And at first couldn't believe that it wasn't David who had written 'Cherish'. All by himself.

It was 1966 and it's amazing how music, arrangements, everything changed during those 6 years, when in 1972 DC recorded the title song for his first solo album. David was a great singer and could make every song his own. There is a fragment of an article/review on 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes, published on 'What Frank Is Listening To), in August 2016, and I agree with every single word:

'I don't care if someone writes their songs or not as long as they can interpret a song and make it their own or at least give it a different life. And Cassidy could do that.'

And : "His greatest talent was singing. He may not be technically perfect but because he is good enough and he is smart enough to look for the meaning in the song and interpret them through his experiences...it's true. All great interpreters from Sinatra to Presley do it...though I'm not putting Cassidy in with Sinatra or Elvis.'

Of course David Cassidy was a very talented songwriter himself, and many songs were written just for him, but it's true that whatever he sang he made a song his own. And was an amazing live performer.

Our PETITION. 1316 fans believe that  David Cassidy should get that stone
