I'm On The Road / Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil

I've been thinking about writing about that song for at least 2 weeks. Publishing last chapters of my book, 'Love Is All That I Ever Needed', was rather emotional, and I wanted after it to write just about music, happy and uplifting, and that song, 'Im On the Road' seemed just perfect.

The song was performed by Love Generation, and written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. And it happened that Cynthia Weil  died a few days ago, on June 1st, at the age of 82.

Cynthia Weil was born in New York, she wanted to be an actress and a dancer, but very early her songwriting talent was discovered.  Barry Mann, also from New York, a year and half older than Cynthia, had his first success as a songwriter in 1959,  he also performed as a singer, and had a Top 40 hit. But when he met Cynthia (they were staff songwriters at the publishing company, Aldon Music), they started working together. Barry wrote music and Cynthia words.. And they fell in love. And married in 1961. And were together to the end.

This is TPF's cover of one of their songs. First recorded by Gene Pitney in 1965

They were one of the most successful teams in pop music history, both inducted into Rock &Roll Hall Of Fame and also into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.. 'Walking In The Rain', 'On Broadway', 'You've Lost That Loving Feelin'', "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place', 'It's Getting Better', 'I Really Want To Know You'.

Barry Mann, who has in his catalog more than 600 songs, wrote this one for The Partridge Family. From Bulletin Board

They also wrote music and songs for TV and film, together and separately. Their songs were nominated for Grammy and Academy Awards.
The world still remembers Tina Turner, the queen of rock & roll, and many people haven't noticed that a great songwriter has died.

One more song, wrote by Cynthia and Barry..Thank you for the music.
