I Write The Songs..

It's not about the Bruce Johnston's song, it's about the DC's songwriting and how underrated he is.

Yes, I know that word 'fan' comes from the word 'fanatic', nevertheless I'm sure that David Cassidy was a very talented songwriter and it's a shame he didn't write more.

The lyrics of his own songs are meaningful and emotional ; sincere, because he wrote about himself, his life, his heartbreaks, and he was very good with words. 'Leave me gently..',  'How did it feel, well, it felt so unreal..', 'My life in LA it seems so passe..', 'Just close your eyes and let my run away..', 'Don't be surprised if someone real is found..', 'I sure was a fool for you..', 'Tight leather suit, isn't he cute, acting all cool and aloof..'

This one was written by a young David Cassidy

I've written about the DC's sonwriting many times, how versatile he was, but yesterday I read something which really irritated me.

There was a pic of an old man with a cigarette in the corner of his mouth. It was posted because of the man 72th birthday. I haven't recognized him first. It was John Deacon. I bet not many people remember him, especially those outside the UK. He was the bass guitarist for Queen, retired from the music business shortly after the death of Freddie.  In 1997.

Sure Queen was important in the 70s, even that I never was a fan. For many reasons, it's not a place for writing about it now. Anyway I understand why Queen and its members are in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. But I couldn't believe my eyes when I read yesterday that John Deacon'd been inducted into Songwriter Hall of Fame in 2003.
Sure he wrote (and co-wrote) some hits. Especially 'I Want To Break Free' was very popular, also because of the famous video. And he wrote another one (similar) great hit, 'Another One Bites The Dust'. It's well documented that the bass line from that song wasn't very original. Great production of course, the number one hit in the USA in October of 1980..but to be inducted into the Songwriter Hall of Fame for it. And so many, not only David Cassidy so completely forgotten..Tony Romeo had a number 1 hit too..
