Cherish Is The Word..

Can't be another title today. Terry Kirkman, the man who wrote that song in 1966, died a few days ago, he was nearly 84. Terry Kirkman wasn't very happy that 'Cherish' became the Association signature song, of course later appreciated the fact how important the song was for many.

Terry Kirkman retired from the music industry in the 80s and worked as an addictions counselor, and during past few days since he died, I've read a lot of posts published by those whose lives Terry Kirkman has saved.

Let's listen not to 'Cherish', but to 'Along Comes Mary', written by Tandyn Almer (another DC connection). Amazing song, and what a fabulous Association's live performance. I love it.

Of course for us, 'Cherish' is David Cassidy signature song, the most popular among his fans, for him it was a huge hit.

The single released in October of 1971 reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, and even was number 1 on the Adult Contemporary (for one week). The first David's hit as a solo artist, not a lead singer of a fake TV band. He must have been so happy and proud, and even certain that it was just the beginning of his great solo career..

In October 1971 when 'Cherish' started its way up on the Hot !00, David Cassidy took part in The Glen Campbell Show. Girls were screaming, he looked so beautiful, so cool, that voice, that smile. Everything. The best teen idol ever, a superstar..

'Cherish is the word..' So true, the precious memories of my stay in the UK last week. Only 5 days, but Ive been to London and Cardiff, met with my friend B. We understand each other without words really, it's amazing to make such a friend later in  life, we met just a few years ago, because of David, but from the start it was that feeling like we have known each other our whole lives, amazing.

It was great to meet other DC's fans in London. Pauline and Gillian at Foyles' cafe first, and we went together to the St Giles.. and what fun we had with Julie and Yvonne (I'm smiling writing this), while waiting for other fans to arrive for the dinner..

It was wonderful to see all of them again. Doreen, Sharron, Tracey, Wendy, Roz, Paula, Kathryn, and met Maya. Sorry if I've forgotten about someone. The dinner was great, and the playlist, we always feel so welcome at St Giles Hotel's restaurant. To hear David's and Partridge Family's songs played there, that was very moving, one of a kind experience. And we were singing along with him..What a memory to cherish.
