David Cassidy in Europe. Part 1

A new video has been published on The David Cassidy Official Website, this new year, 2024 is truly extraordinary, nearly every day a new recording, this one is very short, without sound. May 19, 1974. Hamburg, Germany. It doesn't look like a concert for little girls. DC and his backing singers, Gloria and Trish. Probably 'Rock Me Baby' before leaving the stage. And leaving audience so excited and wanting more.

David Cassidy in Europe..He used to come here mainly for work, he played concerts in the 70s, guest starred on many TV programs in the 70s and in the 80s, and in July 1992 he was in Austria with Sue and Beau filming TV show 'Ein Schloß am Wörthersee' (A Castle at Lake Worther).

But his first ever visit to Europe was private. He didn't know language and probably not much about Italy when he came there on holiday, at the beginning of 1972. He was so young and wanted to be free and behave like any young, ordinary American on holiday. Not a superstar. I was in Rome in 1980, just 18, it was my first ever journey behind The Iron Curtain, it was so exciting, I had a lot of adventures, met wonderful people, and maybe it's a reason I've written that fictional short story about a girl who met David Cassidy in Rome,,

Of course David wasn't just another ordinary American in Europe. He was there also to promote his music and The Partridge Family. But first he had this very needed holiday. He was relatively anonymous there. It was 3 weeks of real freedom, with only one unpleasant situation when in Rome his car was broken into. DC lost some money, his camera and passport, and had to wait for new documents. He hired a red Volksvagen traveling van, had a mini stove and a sleeping bag. He wanted to be free and independent. He drove to Florence, where he picked an old girl friend who lived there and together they went up to the Alps. He met new friends, learned to ski, and liked it very much. Later he drove her home and went to France. Sometimes he slept in the van and sometimes in cheap motels. He had time to read and think, to be alone. I think it speaks volumes about David Cassidy that there is not a single pic from his holiday..

Let's finish this entry watching  DC performing in Germany again. According to the website it was recorded in Bremen on May 6th, 1974, and aired on May 15th.

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971. His parents were young and glamorous working actors. Jack Cassidy was 23 years old, Evelyn Ward 3 years older, both very busy with their career, frequently touring and absent. Two Weddings In Las Vegas

First 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'. The film premiered in the UK 30 years ago, on May 13, 1994.  A low budget film, made in 6 weeks, became unexpected success, all over the world, earned just mountains of money, and made of  Hugh Grant international star. It's also a film with a very strong David Cassidy's connection.  The script was written by Richard Curtis (born in 1956), whose partner (they married after many years in 2023), a popular broadcaster Emma Freud, was (and still is) a DC fan.
