David Cassidy on The Mod Squad
I had a birthday yesterday and I got a lot of really wonderful and touching birthday wishes, a lot because of David Cassidy. From my FB friends and from the members of The David Cassidy Great Britain Legacy Group. From my fellow fans. Thank you so much. It was very moving, it's made my day.
And with some wishes there were pics of David. One was a screenshot from Ruby and the Rockits, DC with a bunch of flowers. Wonderful pic, but somehow it's made me sad (sorry Mary), because sometimes it still hurts seeing a DC picture.
He is not with us..6 years and 4 months, even more, that's a lot of time. For example DC in November 1967 was a teen, at high school, sure he was thinking seriously about acting, but it was still a dream..In April 1974, after 6 years and 4 months he was someone completely different, not just older. A superstar at the crossroads. And because I was spending my birthday on my own, I started watching old videos. First DC on Good Night America. David after his 1974 World Tour, still tired, still sad after Bernadette's death, he just lost a lot of money. He didn't want to be Peter Pan anymore, but he looked like one in shorts and those long socks..
There is a video on YT with the part where Geraldo Rivera talked about DC's career, and in that fragment of the program there is a great footage with DC singing 'Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted' during his MSG concert.

And later I watched The Mod Squad's episode with DC.
In April 1970 the work on The Partridge Family already started, the pilot was sold, the day of the premiere was set, DC was offered $600 a week and he accepted it, he gave first interviews for teen magazines..Great success was anticipated, after all it was the same studio, Screen Gems, which produced The Monkees and Here Come the Brides with Bobby Sherman. DC wasn't naive, he knew they wanted to make a teen idol out of him..
But in April of 1970, American audience could see David Cassidy, not a teen idol but a very promising, dramatic actor. On April 1, on 'Medical Centre', episode called 'His Brother's Keeper', and on April 7 David guest starred on The Mod Squad, episode 2.26, called 'The Loser'.
David's character, Brad Johnson is 18 year-old boy who had earlier problems with law, which started when his father, a disgraced Police Officer had died of heart attack. But now he is accused of stealing a car and hit-and-run, it's not treated like a juvenile crime anymore and Brad is arrested. He is scared and lonely and doesn't trust anyone.
David was great. His acting just outstanding, it was another very difficult and dramatic role. And the way he looked..Sensational. So beautiful. Serious and sensitive. His voice. His clothes, the kind DC wore in real life..a jeans jacket. We have some outstanding screenshots on the Website and 3 part great quality video of that episode with David.
