"His Performance Seduces You"
There are new articles about 'David Cassidy - Man Undercover' recently published on the website, but first something different. Of course nothing about Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame 2024 Nominees, I've promised myself never to write about RRHOF again.
It's about something I read 2 days ago, Angie Dickinson's memories about Frank Sinatra. At the end of the story of their dating she said, "You can't talk enough about him and yet you can never define him. That's the elusive magic." And of course I've thought about David.

The readers of my blog know that I'm a great fan of 'David Cassidy - Man Undercover', and on DC's birthday, Jane published some previews and reviews of the first show's episode.
Before the series debut (November 2, 1978), there was a lot of anticipation and rather friendly interest. A bit of mischiev too, as we can read in Paul Henniger's preview published on October 28, 1978, "The youthful, slightly-built Cassidy looks more like he should galavanting through countryside in a Hardy Boys detective caper, which no doubt prompted NBC into adding 'man' to that title.", and, "NBC has second thoughts about that title, lest you might think it should be "Son of Partridge Family Makes Good".
But in general David was praised for his acting in Police Story, and everyone was waiting to see what would happen next. There are 2 advertisements on the website

After the first episode was aired, some critics felt sorry for DC, but reading such words must have been difficult for him. "We've had the police man, the police woman, even Sam, the police dog. So now it's time for (drum roll, please!) Police Boy! David Cassidy complete with shaggy mane, tight blue jeans and sessions on the couch with his wife stars as an undercover cop (..) 'David Cassidy - Man Undercover' is a slapdash affair.'
The critic, Chris Stoehr blamed poor script of the first episode, "Not even Cassidy escapes the lines written by the jerks who put their names on this script.' However there was one bright spot, as Stoehr put it, "David Cassidy - Man Undercover' has one interesting point : Cassidy himself. His performance seduces you. Cassidy's okay. Really"

This is really fair and unbiased review, and I'm also very happy that Chris Stoehr wrote about the music, co-written by David. "The music is the show primary asset, next to his performance."
