"I Think He's Rather Insecure"
I finally found time to read some articles published by Jane, our webmaster, on April 12. On the day of DC's birthday. She added to the website 74 items. 16 amazing photos from David's last concert in the 70s, played in Manchester on May 28, 1974, and 58 newspapers and magazines articles. What a labour of love, gathering and getting them ready for publishing. What a great present for all of us.

So far I've read only those from the 70s, and learned a few new things. It's impossible to write about everything in one entry.
For example in German mag, called Muzik Express Magazine, we can read that in 1974 David was busy not only touring the world, but also building futuristic helmet for himself, in Hawaii. Only solar energy and electricity from windmills were planned.
In the same German mag, on July 2, 1974, there is an interview with DC ("I'm Not Little Johnny Osmond!"). The conversation took place on a bus from Hamburg to Bremen, on May 6, 1974. DC recorded in Bremen his guest starring appearance on Musikladaen. We have known that recording for years, DC sang 'Rock Me Baby', but in that article, written by an eye witness, we can learn something new, "David plays 'Rock Me Baby' in a casual, routine manner (..) there are a whole lot of girls there who are hanging on his every word, spellbound, when he plays the second number, 'How Can I Be Sure' sings. David has changed his clothes into glitter-studded white tuxedo."
Interesting, but 'How Can I Be Sure' in 1974? I would have thought that if it's true 'If I Didn't Care' was more likely, as at the time was his new single.

There are also some interesting English articles from 1973, it was the peak of 'Cassidymania' in the UK. In February Daily Mirror had free-to-enter competition, each of the 10 winners got 2 tickets for David's afternoon concert at Wembley's Empire Pool on March 17. Actually the competition wasn't easy and I wonder who had got those "so precious tickets".

David Wigg, a very known British journalist, was travelling with DC for 5 days during his European Tour in 1973. His article was called, "David Cassidy. A British View Of Super Puppy.' According to him DC was nicknamed Super Puppy by his entourage, and in Wigg's opinion David was a big worrier, even hypochondriac. But of course he had reasons to be afraid for his safety, especially after the kidnap threat. And some fans.. "After a Hamburg concert, his dressing room window was smashed by a brick thrown by an impatient fans waiting for autographs outside the theater."
"I wouldn't change places with young Cassidy for anything - even though his place as America's biggest teen idol has turned him into a dollar multi-millionaire. The immense preassures, lack of freedom and privacy are a hard price for such transitory fame.."
Larry Kraines, a 24-year old American law student, DC's personal assistant said, "I think he's rather insecure. Perhaps because his rise was so fast."
