"Cassidy And the Raindance Kids"

Daily Mirror, Friday, May 24, 1974.

I have this original article. Story by Sidney Williams, Pictures by Peter Stone. My friend B. cut this article from Daily Mirror half a century ago. It looks so ancient. I've had to improve this pic a litlle bit.

I'm reading this article again, it's just amazing how David Cassidy was popular in the UK, what a mega star he was, followed everywhere he went, and how people don't remember about it now.

Only fans and some very old DJs, like Tony Prince who is on this pic with David.

"David Cassidy played the traditional pop stars' game of dodging the fans yesterday. The 24-year-old American led the kids a merry dance through the rain in London. He spent the morning recording a Radio Luxembourg show, which will be broadcast tomorrow, after he nipped in through the back door while his followers blocked the road outside the front of the studio in Hertford Street. He waved to them from the balcony.."

And we have this show on The David Cassidy Official Website, and we can hear fans screaming on that day..

Not a good quality, but just listen to this one, the same week, David in conversation with famous Jack de Manio and Michael Wale.

Let's return to the article. "Later he was driven to the Thames TV studios for a filming session and when screaming girls pressed against the plate glass door, he consoled them by kissing the glass - on the inside.."

"He said, 'This touring game has just about knocked me out. It has been go, go, go for three-and-a-half years, and I want to stop touring while I'm still on top (.. ) He denied that he was simply a product of the star-making publicity machine. He said, 'Sooner or later the star has to go out and dance, and if he can't dance, that's the end..' David will be dancing, so to speak, in Glasgow tonight, in London on Sunday and in Manchester on Tuesday." 50 years ago.
