Some Birthdays and 'Somebody Wants To Love You'
We've been celebrating the 50th anniversary of David Cassidy's European leg of his 1974 World Tour, but in May there are more important dates connected with David.
Actually so many that I don't know where to start. The best will be with the song, one of the first two DC recorded for The Partridge Family, on May 11, 1970.
DC wrote about this first session in his autobiography. "I was nervous. I didn't want to screw up or cause problems for all these pros who had no idea who I was. We'd been chatting and I'd hear some voice on the loudspeaker saying, 'Could you please ask the singer, whatever his name is, to shut up?' or 'Can you ask the singer not to slow down?', or 'Can you ask the singer not to rush?" (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?', 2007, p. 83)

They very quickly learnt his name and more. Mike Melvoin, "We really loved David. David was a joy in the studio. We had a lot of fun together. (..) We all became friends with him and we wanted to make David sound great. David was a stage ready when he was a kid. There was no hint of the amateur about him."
Mike Melvoin, he was born on May 10, 1837. American jazz pianist, composer and arranger, music director of The Partridge Family and 2 first David's solo albums. A true legend. As a session musician he played on Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds' album, or John Lennon's 'Stand By Me'. He worked with Sinatra and Michael Jackson. And David Cassidy. Mike Melvoin died on February 22, 2012

David's mother, Evelyn Mae Ward was born in May. On 21st, in 1923. They were very close, even that this relationship not always was easy, especially when David was a teen idol. David always tried to be a good son, he was very protective and caring. He inherited her beauty, her beautiful eyes, her sensitivity. In his later years he was more like his father, but when he was young and had long hair he looked more like her.

Bernard Slade, Partridge Family's creator was born in May too, in 1930, and the series executive producer Bob Claver, on May 22, 1928.
And someone else, maybe not exactly important for David but we all love Danny Partridge's friend, Punky Laazar. Gary Michael Dubin who played that role was born on May 5, 1959. A very successful child actor, he even appeared in the James Bond film, 'Diamonds Are Forever.' He voiced Toulouse in the Aristocats in 1970. He also could sing.. In later years be became very prominent voice actor. He would have been 65 this year. Wonderful man, he died in 2016 from bone cancer.
Danny Bonaduce, "Gary Dubin..Excellent actor and good guy has passed. Best friend I made on the set of The Partridge Family."
