Something's Wrong / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen and Bobby Hart

It has taken me some time to really appreciate The Partridge Family 'Notebook', released in November 1972. This album shows how great, mature pop singer David Cassidy became in 1972, he made those songs (some average) really great. Maybe let's start with the song which wasn't released in America as a single, and in my opinion it was a huge mistake.

It was released as a single in Europe, also in Netherlands (the pic from The David Cassidy Official Website.

Such a memorable scene, btw I've recently read that during filming it Danny annoyed David so much that he threw the microphone in Danny's direction.. I don't know if it's true, but of course 1972 was extremely difficult for DC, he was overworked. That year he recorded 2 TPF's albums, and 2 solo albums,  Season 3 was filmed, and it's difficult to believe but in 1972 David Cassidy played 61 concerts in the US. Everywhere. No wonder he could often lose his patience.

From article published on September 20, 1972, "I do my job just like a cop who puts on a uniform or a fireman.' Admittedly, he's bored with the ABC TV show (..) 'It's so casual now. I don't put much energy into it'. The energy is saved for the concerts which occupy almost every week.(...) At least, one thing is better about weekends, he said. He can sleep later than 6am, time required by his series schedule."

There is something really magical about some of Notebook's songs. 'Storybook Love', 'Together We're Better', I always listen to them when I need to get happy, they always make me feel better. But I think 'Something's Wrong' especially shows David Cassidy's vocal and also acting skills. What a great pop singer he was, in the same league as the best from the 70s. Because the song with its changing tempo is not simple at all, and the lyrics..how emotional he sings/tells us this story about the end of love.."Try to get along without your love, baby.."

  I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971..And there was a comment about that episode that the script was poorly written, sexist etc. Maybe, no one would dare write something like that now, but the world looked different half a century ago..And I really felt sad yesterday because of Robyn. 'and sexy in a way that is timeless.' It's from Kevin Fallon's article published on www.thedailybeast.com on November  22, 2017.  Maybe it's not the smartest thing to do, but the newest article about David Cassidy on Record Collector Magazine, and first of all different pointsview of it, made me have a look on some articles published after this horrible day,  November 21, 2017. We Gotta Get Out Of This Place / Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil

From 'Notebook' album, released in November 1972, by Bell Records. The song was first recorded as demo by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil themselves, but of course it's a big The Animals' hit from 1965. It became # 2 in the UK (behind The Beatles' 'Help'), and number 13 on the U.S. Hot Billboard 100 chart. An iconic song, it's on The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll's list. I think that there are songs which shouldn't be covered. They belong to the time in which they were created. 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' is one of them. In the 60s it became very popular  at high school proms and graduation parties. And maybe it was David himself who actually wanted to record it in 1972. He remembered the song from his high school years and he loved The Animals. And of course he was overworked..   The song became even more popular with United States Armed Forces members stacioned in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
