All Kinds Of Everything / Derry Lindsay and Jackie Smith

Before the England match on Saturday, my FB friend Pauline Tombs posted old David Cassidy's pic on which he was wearing a Queens Park Rangers kit, to show that also David supported Three Lions. Another FB friend, Kathryn Spencer, wrote in comment, 'It never fails to amaze me how you can find a David Cassidy link in the most unlikely of places' and Pauline (she has a great sense of humour) answered that she surprised herself sometimes.

I smiled and thought that it was just the same with me as with Pauline. And at once 'All Kinds Of Everything' started playing in my head. It was a great hit, by Dana, who in 1970, still a schoolgirl at the time, won the 1970 European Song Contest with this song.

Of course The European Song Contest in the 70s and 80s was not shown in the communist Poland, but winning songs were played on Polish radio. Never was a fan of them, but I got to know Dana's hit very well.

We had a young teacher of English at high school, not much older than us, just like us bored with old and uninteresting textbooks, the authorities wanted to discourage young people from learning English, so she taught us the language using western songs. That was not really allowed and of course we loved her and those lessons, btw we had only 2 English lessons a week and 6 of Russian. And  once, maybe it was in 1977, we had a lesson with Dana's song. We translated lyrics and I can't remember whose idea it was, but we started singing it..That was really something. We were 16 years old, 28 people in the class, boys and girls..yes, that was fun..and of course our headmaster came to check what was going on, he wasn't very happy but just asked us to sing not so loud..

Charming. And yes, a lot of things remind us of David Cassidy. He is always on our minds,

This is such a great song and DC's fabulous, young voice makes it so special, it should have became a pop classic, known by everybody. DC also liked it very much. But of course the world knows only another 'You Are Always On My Mind', the Elvis' and later Willie Nelson's hit. Written by Mark James, that song got Grammies and a lot of awards..

Yes, a lot of things remaind me of David Cassidy, but I'm sure I'm not the only one.
