David Cassidy In Conversation With His Fans

One more DC's radio interview from Australia 1974 has appeared on the website. David Cassidy was in the studio of Radio 3XY in Melbourne, 2 days before his concert.

'Cherish', 'If I Didn't Care' and 'Breaking Up is Hard To Do' were played, and there were also 6 fans in the studio, girls, who could ask DC questions.

It's amazing how seriously he approached to these questions. Of course DC was aware that seeing him in flesh, an opportunity to ask about something and get an answer was a dream come true for his fans.

From 1970 onwards he was constantly answering some questions, usually the same ones. Fans started sending letters and asking about DC after he guest starred on Marcus Welby. In April 1970, in Tiger Beat fans got first answers from David about what he liked or disliked. In one interview he also said where he lived and where did he shop. That was a huge mistake..I wrote a short story about it a few years ago.

At the height of his popularity DC was getting 25 000 letters a week. Can you imagine those millions of girls (and boys) choosing special stationery just for him, looking for the right words to express their feelings for him, or to ask a question, and then throw their letters into their mailboxes with a beating heart..A lot of them truly believed that David would read their letter and respond in person. Just writing and sending were so important. One fan wrote in a letter published on FaVE, "Dear David, I just know you'll probably never see this letter, but it makes me feel a little better just to write it, even if I am just mailing my words off into the space somewhere. At least, this way, I feel like I'm talking to you.."

Maybe a song, about girls and magic, and this video is different than the usual tribute ones.

Who knows how many young people had full-time jobs writing fan adresses from envelopes, reviewing fan letters and writing replies on David's behalf which were later published on teen mags..

Let's return to DC's conversations with his fans on the radio. 1990 was really special, it was his great comeback, he was invited to many radio stations, live programs, and a lot of people called to tell David how much they still loved him, how they appreciated his music, his work and how they waited for his return.

I've chosen this program, also because of one fan who really wanted to date David..
