David Cassidy in Scandinavia

I've wanted to write about DC in Scandinavia for quite a lot of time. One of the reasons is that sometimes I have readers from Sweden, Denmark and Norway, also Finland, the last country is sometimes called Scandinavian too, due to the economic and cultural similarities. The other reason is that we know not much about DC's popularity there, or even his concerts in Sweden and Denmark in 1974.  

Of course we know DC's iconic pics from his Gröna Lund's concert, in Stockholm. Gröna Lund is the oldest amusment park in Sweden, there is also a concert venue there, and a lot of famous musicians performed on that stage. 

Among them Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, ABBA of course, and David Cassidy on May 8, 1974. 

There is a small note about this concert on The David Cassidy Website, "Teen-age singing idol David Cassidy, 24, came to Stockholm for a concert Wednesday and by the time he had left, four girls were hospitalized and another 40 fainted or were suffering from hysteria. Cassidy, star of the U.S. television series, 'The Partridge Family' sang before a sellout crowd of mostly young teen-age girls in a concert resembling the Beatelmania of the 1960s. More than 60 police and special guard formed a human chain around the stage to keep the screaming youngsters away from Cassidy.."

I was in Stockholm for a few days about 10 years ago, but at the time I didn't know about DC's concert there. We don't have a setlist or an audio recording, nothing. Let's watch instead a beautiful video made by Anna Maria Ottengren, who ( I think) is from Sweden.

In May 1974 DC also played a concert in Copenhagen, on May 9 (we have 2 pics on the website) and another one in Sweden, in Gothenburg, and there is no info about it.

Kelly has translated for us one article from this album, so we know that The Partridge Family wasn't shown in Scandinavia. When DC heard about it, he said, "I'm glad to hear that..You haven't missed anything". And we also have learnt that it was in Paris, where DC mixed the live recordings from his concerts in Glasgow, London and Manchester. 

Another fragment, "David was genuinely upset about not being allowed to perform in Norway. A concert was arranged at the stadium in Oslo, but the authorities were afraid for the fans' safety..'
