David's Radio Interview And Some July Anniversaries

Suddenly and quite unexpectedly July 2024 has begun. Better not to think about the passing time, but somehow it's not easy to forget about it while writing about DC.

A new radio interview on the website, another one from 1974, and I'm so happy, each DC's radio interview from the 70s is priceless. This one was broadcast in Australia, in February, and David was on the phone, advertising his upcoming concert in Melbourne and talking about his solo albums.

Just amazing. Maybe because I never heard DC on the radio in the 70s, now those conversations make a huge impression on me.

DC on the radio was a complete different person that the one known from The Partridge Family ('TV show' as he usually called it), especially in this conversation. I have no idea if it was pre-recorded, or DC was live on it and it was a time difference, anyway his voice was tired, but his answers so thoughtful and honest. Mature.

I admire his tenacity and the fact, that despite many negative opinions and prejudices he kept fighting for his independence. He could have been a wonder boy, Keith P. for many, many years..

In the interview DC talked how important for him was 'Rock Me Baby' album, so different from 'Cherish', how radio listeners couldn't guess who was singing the title song, and about his joy and satisfaction that he'd recorded a cover of 'How Can I Be Sure'. It was a hit when DC was at high school, and at the time The Rascals was his favourite band.

Today, on  July 1st, but 52 years ago, in 1972, David Cassidy's 'How Can I Be Sure' peaked at # 25 on The Billboard Hot 100 chart. Later that year, in October, 'Rock Me Baby' was on # 38. David had to wait 18 years to have one more and last his song on that prestigious and for him the most important chart. Until November 1990 when 'Lyin' To Myself' became no 27.

It was published by TopPop 6 years ago, 320 000 views, and somehow it's still hard to read the description, 'David Bruce Cassidy (April 12, 1950 - November 21, 2017) was an American actor, singer, songwriter and guitarist'. I think I will never get used to it. Maybe one of the reason is the fact that not only we write about DC on daily basis, but also a lot of new things appear quite often.

There are some other July Anniversaries. On July 27 we will be celebrating the day when 50 years ago  'Please, Please Me' peaked in the UK at no 16.

Another great Sharon Angulot video.
