No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross / Simon Climie, Billy Laurie, Lulu Frieda

The single from 'Old Trick, New Dog' album, released in 1998 on David Cassidy's own, short-lived record label, Slamajama Records.

DC, who at the time still was living and working in Las Vegas, wanted to record again something different than what was on a previous album, and achieve a new, modern sound. He made a point that this time he wouldn't collaborate with his wife, Sue Shifrin. Besides their marriage was on the rocks, David was working non stop and was on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

But in spite of many problems, the released album was fresh, contemporary and consisted of very high quality music. There were some remakes of old TPF's hits, one great cover ('Show And Tell'), and first of all there were new songs.

'Old Trick, New Dog' was produced by three young and popular musicians, but David left himself a decisive voice, he was an executive producer, he wanted the best quality and to be in full control. He was a perfectionist and workaholic.

The songs like always with David Cassidy, were about love. DC was singing about himself and his ups and downs all his life. In 1998 he was 48 years old, he knew everything about love and sex, passion, longing, joy and pain of love. And infidelity. He said about 'Old Trick, New Dog', "it has the reflections of a guy who has been through hell and back. It's about a guy who has come to terms with who he is in life as well as his music. I think it reveals a lot about me as romanticist, an optimist and a survivor.' (Mark Wyckoff, 'David Cassidy Reinvents Himself With 'Old Trick New Dog', May 25, 1998, Democrat and Chronicle)

And his voice. Wonderful, mature and sensual, David was so sure of his voice, its magic. But there is also sensitivity, vulnerability and loneliness. I love 'Sheltered In Your Arms', poignant, heartbreaking ballad he co-wrote

And of course there is the single from that wonderful, personal album, 'No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross' (wrote by British songwriters), and thanks to this song, he achieved something truly amazing.. He was again on the charts in the US. This song became an Adult Contemporary Top 25 hit in the USA.

This is not my favourite song from that album, but it's been on my mind this week, because of some improved or even made by AI, David Cassidy's pics. We still love him, and I can understand everything, that some fans crop, photoshop or colour old black & white photographs of David. So on some pics from the 70s he has flawless complexion, straight teeth and his eyes are even more sparkling if possible..But the truth is that now everything is possible and I'm sure a lot of fans will cross that bridge.
